Easy...swing wide. Pay attention to your mirrors also.

what is swing wide?

Exactly what it means. On a right hand turn...you drive forward until your trailer tandems(why I said the mirrors above) are just about to the intersection. This is also about where the truck is in the center of the intersection. Then you turn the wheel. This may also cause you to go into oncoming traffic for a moment so be sure it is clear.

If you are having trouble visualizing then may I suggest watching a youtube video on this subject.

Also change your view points on your screen. Sometimes a view from above your truck could help you find out if you can really make the turn. Swing wide, and view from overhead and see if you can get a better view of the area where you are trying to make your turn.

Essentially, your trailer will turn tighter than the truck, which is why you hit the trailer on things inside corners. To make the trailer turn like normal, you have to turn the truck wide, which means farther from the corner than normal. If you turn the truck like normal, then the trailer will turn tight, and often hit something.

Have a look at this website. Images clearly show the path to take.
Green is the tractor/cab unit and red is the trailer.

Truck with trailers do not drive like cars. They need a wider turn so they don't hit anything.

Though this isn't exactly what you need to do, this is an example of an extreme case:

This video also shows an aerial view of how one could do the turn on a real tractor:

For a right hand turn like in the video above, In a car you're supposed to hug the curb and turn into the closest lane, but in a truck if you are turning onto a 2 lane road, can you legally turn into the outer lane, like to give yourself more room to turn? I know the game doesn't care, but legal in IRL?

Real life does not care either. I watch a YT channel by a Canadian driver (okay, German driver working in Canada to be exact) and he does this all the time in CA and US. No one cares. And who should. Police have more work with a knocked over sign...

The law in the US more or less states: Make a right turn as close as practicable to the right-most edge/curb as possible. As long as you don't cause an accident, there's no other way to do it safely, and don't disrupt other drivers by doing so, you can make a turn as wide or as obstructive as is necessary to do your turn. :longhaul:

In real life, you'd keep the rear of your trailer partially in the right lane until you're ready to move and make the turn to prevent traffic from squeezing into it.
