And i also noticed alot of things just in general get brighter in first person than in third person
Which causes this issue
Glad to see I'm not the only one. Not too sure Cab vs outside make too much of a difference, but yeah...

The dev console command would be :
g_bloom 0 (for off) g_bloom 1 (for on).
In the config file found here :
C:\Users\YOUR NAME HERE\Documents\American Truck Simulator\config.cfg
you're looking for the entry "uset g_bloom" ; Set it to :
uset g_bloom "0"
To turn the bloom off.
I just checked, and bloom is already off unfortunatly
From memory it's called white balance.
Yes, it's the fault of Eye Adaptation being way over-tuned. But we can't tweak it because there's some ***hat at SCS that think his vision of the world is the only one correct. They will not let us tweak that, even trough console commands/config files.
I will try the link posted above, to change the color correction by using the Nvidia filters, but as the post author itself says it, "it's putting lipstick on a pig"
I noticed this most in new mexico when switching cameras
I agree, they have a long way to go.
This issue only applies to the "cockpit" perspective. Just drive around Nevada, Arizona or new Mexico (ore any desert/ish place) and switch between "cockpit" and outside perspective and the difference is insane. I've been saying this is an issue for a long time but nothing is done.
And even worse, people in here being like: "This is fine. Must be a problem on your end."
NO it's not. And in ETS2 it is the EXACT same.
This is so much NOT on our end that at some point I saw a mod to fix it. Sadly it didn't work.
Read the post instructions carefully..he was referring to leaving certain in game settings activated before applying the NVIDIA Overlay settings...if you follow these settings you will see a drastic improvement...the over brightness (bloom) will be gone and shimmering will be
greatly reduced as well. There are also some NVIDIA Control Panel tweaks that can help too.
YouTube also has several tutorials about NVIDIA Overlay Settings.
It fixed some weirdness maybe, but I'll have to play more to see if some of my gripes are at least partially resolved. Garage road surface still looked way too bright imo.
Also his gamma's are at 35, mines are at 0. Anything above that makes the game wayyy too bright.
As for the lipstick part: He does mention to turn off HDR. Woops, too bad we can't turn it off in 1.40 and upwards xD Unless maybe I am wrong ? If anyone's in the know, please let me know
Yes...you may need to tweak the settings a bit depending on what type of monitor you are using....I find the gamma ok on my laptop display.....There is a setting in Windows for turning off HDR as I'm sure you are aware...as far as sliders...it's a bit tricky..just rest your cursor on the slider bar and use the arrow keys to make fine adjustments...if it persists I find closing and re-opening GEForce works.
UPDATE:
Here's a preset I found that is on the less brighter side that may be helpful.
Also, Monitor and in game brightness adjustments can help tone down graphics as well.
