Driving in left lane (fast lane) too long?
I read somewhere here (forgot where) that you can be fined for driving in left lane for too long since left lane considered the fast lane for overtaking. Trucks are usually slower than cars. But what is considered "too long"?

If I know that I'm going to turn left a few blocks ahead, can I stay in left lane or do I have to change lanes back and forth?

In-game there's no problem - no fines there - but I'm curious about the real world for the game role-playing part and for some realism.

14 Western States Based on RL. Probably true for all states.

This will very based on equipment Typically HH loads are restricted to the (Edit) far right (Inside Lane). Under escort Right & or Left turns. Escorts will block lanes to make it possible for turns from other lanes.
Very from state to state. This is the basics. Yes State DOT Highway Patrol & City.
Out side of cities. Right lane except when passing another car & or Truck.
Grades Restricted to right lane. Typically 35 MPH Speed limit.
Cities: Right lane 3 lanes may run the center lane Not Always. Allow this do to low overpass restrictions. 13 ft 6 inches and or under. Typical box trailer 13 ft 6 inches.
Maybe flat bed loads or drop decks. Wyoming Maximum height restrictions is 14 ft. Few other states as well.

Edit: California: Interstate 2 lanes. Restricted to the right lane except when passing other trucks.

Truck speed limit restrictions 55 MPH. Other traffic 65 mph.
California Cities. 2, 3, 4 lanes restricted to the far right lane (in side lane). Exception when the far right lane is a exit lane. Then you can run one lane over from far right lane. 3 Lane highway Center. 4 Lanes 2nd lane from from far right or inside lane.

California grades, Colorado, Nevada + other states. Restricted to far right lane 35 mph "No" exceptions. Loaded or empty on grades.

How long will very from state, traffic volume, weather & road conditions. If you are running a truck in a restricted lane. How long is restricted. Untill a DOT officer sees you running in a restricted lane.

Will State DOT officers issue a ticket. Yes they will maybe a warning thats dependent on state traffic, weather conditions and officer.

Example heavy volume traffic, I 15 between Barstow, Ca & Las Vegas. Seen the traffic almost bumper to bumper. Traffic volume 45 MPH. Definatley restricted to the far right lane period. "No" passing...

Why? "Its Simple Traffic Impediment". Based on the motoring public safety. Applied to Federal, State & city DOT law enforcement officers.

Tx. & Mn. will ticket you for impeding the flow of traffic in the left lane. It just depends on whether anyone is around & if they are in the mood to write the ticket. There was an article quite awhile back where a woman got a ticket for 1mph under the speed limit for blocking the far left lane up in MN.

Ontario (Canada) it is almost never enforced. Technically, yes, they can pull you over for failing to keep right when driving less than normal speed, but there’s almost no lane discipline here. People tend to cruise in the middle lane so they don’t have to change lanes because of other vehicles entering/exiting the highway, and to consistently pass other vehicles that do use the right lane properly. The left lane, at least, is universally acknowledged as a fast lane, but that can mean everyone there is going 140km/h trying to pass the dopes going 95 and 100 in the right and middle lanes, respectively.

On some highways, the middle lane was filled with trucks because the highway had been widened from four to six lanes - something the overpasses hadn’t been designed for, and there wasn’t enough height clearance in the right lane.

Well, here in Montana I've seen trucks casually cruising along in the left lane on the Interstate not passing anyone and even driving by highway patrol cars without being pulled over.

In Georgia, trucks are typically limited to the 2 right lanes on a 3 or more lane each way road. I have seen a truck get pulled by a trooper for running in the 3rd lane around Macon. In cars, as long as you aren't impeding traffic, you can run in the "fast lane". If you are impeding traffic in the "fast lane", you can get ticketed.

I know the stretch on the 400 you are referring to.
I wish this existed somewhere in game.... just to watch.
