Thrustmaster T80 Experiences?
Im looking at getting a cheap upgrade to a controller, i figure the thrustmaster T80 looks to be a good option, as i dont want to spend loads but want the finer controls of a wheel. Anyone have any experiences with the T80 and Windows 10?

Not recommended actually.

It is a 270° wheel which can lead to a small wheel move being an extremely large turn in game. It is just a bungee on the inside for centering. There is no force feedback.

I would recommend saving up a little bit more and going for a wheel that has 900° such as the T150/TMX. Possibly try using a used market for your area.

Thanks for that, yes i did consider the T150, just too expensive.
I was thinking about that turning circle, yes you right its 270, but is a million times better than a controller, i assume when you reach your 270 limit the game wont stop turning? i assume the wheel even though its stopped in real life will carry on sending a turn command to the game.. Just like the xbox controller stick does.. If i lean the stick fully to the one side the game doesnt stop turning it carries on sending a turn signal.. So yea, the t80 will certainly be better than a controller. And i dont need force feedback, not getting it with my controller either :) all im looking for at this point is better steering control... But after saying all this you making me doubt myself again...

The game is designed for a 900° wheel though.

At 270° a small move can possibly make a HUGE steer in the game. You will need to mess around with steering sensitivity slider to find a balance between oversteer and understeer on that wheel.

This is why I also mentioned looking at the used market in your area. Find something better for around the same price you are willing to pay.

You do have a point, im just trying to imagine how it would not be a million times better than with an xbox controller...

Your right, it would be better than an xbox controller. BUT...it is just better to wait and get a good wheel that is more realistic and more enjoyable(unless it would take a year to save for it). Personally, I love my G29(although it is expensive), and I can't see myself ever playing without it again. Its you're choice, but if I were you I would wait and get a 900 degree wheel.

270 degrees horribad in this game. Pain!

This is not how a wheel would be set up. If you set the wheel to work like a joystick, it will work this way, but then you get almost no benefit over the controller itself, as you still have to wait for the wheels in game to turn where you want them. If you have it set to a wheel, then full lock on your wheel, will be full lock in the game. Because of the rotation difference, a 5 Degree turn on your wheel would actually be a 16.6 Degree turn in game. This means you will still have poor control, because the truck will react faster than it should.

Another thing, I started with Keyboard, then Controller, and now a good FFB 900 Degree Logitech wheel. The upgrade to controller was almost necessary IMO, but the upgrade to a wheel was a luxury. The game is fine with a controller, and if you are going to spend money for a wheel, it may as well be a good one. Why bother spending money for an experience barely better than controller? It is also more complicated to set up a wheel, physically. I found this reduced my likelihood to play the game sometimes, because I had to get my wheel, plug it in, restart the PC (not always an issue), set the wheel up on the desk (Move mousepad, keyboard, cables, etc), then I could play the game. I have it figured out better now, but it is still something to think about.

Thanks Ttower this is a good explanation, i was wondering about how the mechanics of the physical wheel translate into the game. This answers a lot. You make some good points, points that have already been made here but your explanation about the mechanics has tipped my thinking, im going to wait and do some more contemplating, looking at the thrustmater t150 rather... as its also cheap and has the turning circle.. I dont have money for full on simulation experience, dont need all the bells and whistles, but the turning circle sounds like its a must if im going to bother with a wheel.. On the setup is it not quite quick and easy to unclamp - set aside - reclamp when needed? i have enough space on my desk for it to sit next to my monitor when not needed and quickly clamp into position when i play trucks or other racing games..

Ok this is important :) can you share your experience a little when it comes to the limited turning circle? is it ok if you just turn the steering sensitivity up a bit in game?

In the last month(October) i see that the wheel vibrating in the game so i
turn the steering non-linearity up and it solved the problem.
so it's great but i planning to buy a 900 degree wheel.
sorry for my English :steamsad:

Thanks that also makes sense... after all this im still now leaning towards the Thrustmaster T150, its currently on special where i am and to get the full turning circle required sounds like a win to me

Thanks all for your advice really helpful. So glad i asked these questions. I’ve decided to go for the thrustmaster T150 just for that extra rotation angle, im sure I won’t regret it. It is on a good special as well.
