i5-11400 + 16GB Ram is not enough? Game freezes my PC
Hi everyone. My setup:

CPU: i5-11400
MoBo: Asus H570M-Plus
Ram: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz (tested with MemTest 9.4)
PowerSupply: EVGA 430W
SSD Kingston 240GB
No graphic card, I play with Integrated Graphics (1GB dedicated Vram)
Windows 10 PRO original
ATS updated, no MOD and integrity check passed

For the last few days my game has frozen my system to the point where I need to restart my computer. Nothing is saved in game logs or even Windows events. I installed the NZXT CAM monitoring software and started the game to identify if it was a heating problem, but I could see that my CPU remains stable at 77º C while the memory consumption increases considerably, starting at 4GB until reaching around 12GB (around 10 minutes of playing) and the system freezes.

My setup is a very new setup, buyed later January/2022. Before I had a fourth generation Intel processor with 32GB DDR3 memories and I never faced similar problems.

Has anyone here noticed something similar?

Im pretty certain your integrated graphics is the problem.

There's you problem

CPU: i5-11400 Ok, ok looking decent.
MoBo: Asus H570M-Plus Alright, not bad.
Ram: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz (tested with MemTest 9.4) Better than my laptop and it runs the game alright.
PowerSupply: EVGA 430W Probably need something beefier than that, hope your gpu sin't stressing that too much.
SSD Kingston 240GB An SSD? Not bad.
No graphic card, I play with Integrated Graphics (1GB dedicated Vram) BINGO! There's your problem. Who in their right mind would try to use a 1gb video chip to play modern games in 2022, you need 4GB at the minimum to play this (Coming from someone who plays on a 4gb GPU at 1440p max settings at 30 fps.)

Do you use a controller? The forum is filled with people having issues with controllers right now. A Steam update broke controller support for the game. Disable Steam Input for controllers, or just try without using a controller at all to see if the game will work.

1GB is low, but 4GB is more than needed. I played for a long time on a 2GB card, and it was capable of medium/high settings at 40-50 FPS 1080p. I would recommend a GPU upgrade for him, but it would likely not be what is causing his issue right now, unless the GPU is not only old, but broken.

The fact that your memory use steadily climbs higher and higher could indicate an issue with an app that is open. Try running ATS with nothing else running, no browser/discord/hardware monitoring apps/etc.

I think you missed the bit that said onboard graphics. A dedicated card with 2+GB is fine, onboard is another story.

--

Do you play any other games, freezes suggest system instability faulty hardware or something else going on.

The rise in RAM is normal and 10/12GB usage is normal for me (though I don't pay much attention to it and background programs since I have 32gb total).

I did miss the Integrated Graphics part, yes. In that case, it very well could be the issue, especially because an Integrated GPU does not have true VRAM, so even if it says 1GB, it may not have access to it all the time, and it will be taking from the regular RAM pool to do so.

you're wrong, I played the same way with my fourth generation intel processor.

No controller, I'm too lazy to mount my steering wheel.

yeah I think I need more ram :(

Has ATS ever run well for you on that system?

That should be more than plenty of RAM, even with the integrated GPU...

on the previous system (Intel i5 4th generation and 32GB ram) yes

Interesting: I enabled XMP profile II on my Asus motherboard and now the game was able to consume about 10GB of memory without freezing my system and I still managed to lock my FPS at 60. lmao

That makes sense. Without XMP, the memory will run at a lower speed. Because you have an iGPU, that means the GPU performance would be heavily tied to RAM speed. If the RAM speed was limited, then you could have performance suffer.
