How do you assign an existing driver to a new truck?

Or isn't this possible?
I have 4 drivers and I just bought a spare truck. I want to assign my oldest driver to it (it's a nice one.)

Go to the Driver Info page, and then Re-assign the driver to the garage slot containing the truck you wish them to drive.

Alternatively, take the new truck and assign it to the driver's slot. It will swap the trucks.

I keep being put into the new truck, not the AI driver.

When you select a driver or a truck, there is a button labeled "relocate." Use that button. You can then either assign the driver to the truck's slot, or assign the truck to the driver's slot. Both should work.

It asks if you want to drive your new truck, say no. Put in a garage and then assign a driver to it. Takes some time before he/she gets to work.

and make sure to just buy a truck and not drive it.
