Controller won't work properly anymore
I'm kinda lost here.
I have seen that they ducked up the steam input and I had to either use the fix they provided (which didn't work for me) or make a new profile.
I tried, but it simply wont work?

Half of the inputs simply dont work with my controller anymore, for example to instantly look left/right. The game just wont do the things even though they're set in the Steam input menu (I made sure to set it to all transmission modes).

A little example:
At the beginning of the button press to look right, at the beginning pf the button press to zoom, and at the end to center the camera again.
But the game just zooms and thats it.
Even if I just set it to just look right, it wont do it no matter what kind of button press i select (long, simple, double etc.)
I had the EXACT same settings before the Input duck up and they work flawlessly, but now they wont work anymore.

What now? Did i overlook something or is it really broken?

Interesting. I had exactly the same problem and couldn't for the life of me find a solution. I'll try your workaround and see if it solves anything.

But watch out, that also means deleting your savegames if you dont use the steam cloud for them

Did you make sure you reset your controls to default in the game settings? You may also need to set the controls through the game settings, not just Steam.

I never used the Steam controller settings, or Big Picture mode, or anything like that. Try setting up the controller through the game directly, without using Steam at all. That is how I used my controller, and now my wheel, and didnt have issues with it. Disable the Steam controller settings, and go in game. Go to controls, and from the top dropdowns, select the controller + Keyboard. From there go through the game settings to bind your throttle, brake, steering, look controls, button keybinds, etc. It should work properly then.

I took a look at it and already ran into a big problem, I can't set up multiple button presses without steam Input. For example, pressing B a single time does X, pressing B twice quickly does Y, and holding B for x seconds does T.
Cant do that without steam input. I had a perfect setup, where everything you need to drive a truck was mapped on the controller through that, I didn't need to use the keyboard anymore.

I always kept my keyboard within reach, and had my controller set up so that I would not need to use the keyboard while driving, except for some uncommon cases, like Wipers. It worked fine for me. There may be a way around the issue, but it is not something I ever looked into, because I did not need to.

For me that is now a absolute deal breaker, that steam input wont work properly anymore. If i hadn't have hundreds of hours both in in ETS2 and ATS, I would have refunded the games now, but I cant. Even worse, I just bought a map DLC in ATS and cant even play it now.

The only way to get it to work is go to controller settings in steam and uncheck options in there then right click ATS and go to controller settings and turn that off. You will have to wait until someone figures out how to make it work like before.

Yep SCS is a terrible company that seems to be forcing THEIR Steam Input controller settings and only theirs. I stopped playing the game for about a year and it was my daily driver with the steam controller and a heavily modified setup. Then SCS decided to bring in Steam Input and the Steam Controller stopped working, it would essentially save my binding down, I would go back into the game, and my bindings disappeared, replaced with THEIR terrible setup (it's not actually terrible, but it doesn't include gyro steering(as just one LARGE oversight)...hello...IT'S A DRIVING GAME, LEFT RIGHT ROTATION ACTS JUST LIKE A WHEEL, WOW SO ADVANCED), so OK fine screw this game, I tried it on the Steam Deck and it works great, this same issue no longer happens, I can update SCS bindings to take them from decent to fantastic and add a bunch more things. Since this latest update, now even the Steam Deck has the same problem, you can't make ANY updates to the bindings because it just won't take...and what the hell is the point of steering with a stick when 2 of my controllers and the Steam Deck have native Gyro...I'm about done with this game at this point, it was hard enough not being able to play it on the computer, now I can't play it on the Steam Deck either? There's really no point.

This is from an SCS dev:

So complain to Steam for not having a good way to convert configurations.

Literally unreadable but I managed to get two spots there read and that made me laugh. I am playing with DualShock4 and its gyro sensor without Steam Input enabled. No issues after setting it up the first time few months ago.
