Is there any reason why that is the case? I just don't get how it makes sense if it is slower than some of the speed limits in the game
Besides many trucks in the US are locked to 65 mph by companies.

Not in Nevada and parts of Wyoming.
Makes perfect sense. It doesn't matter that you "own" your own truck. Some companies when you lease onto them require a speed governor. That is what the game is simulating. In addition these loads are generated by SCS computers. I totally understand why there is a speed governor. This part of the game actually mimics real life which leads to the following.
The very large and wide majority of trucks on the road today in the USA are speed limited to around 65mph.
That's it right there though. I own the truck.
