Headlight Usage
Just got a fee for headlight usage because I had them turned off. Its nearly 7:30pm game time but the sun was beaming into my windshield.

Is there some kind of regulation I dont know about? Or is this a bug? (not a trucker so this could be something I am unaware of)

Thanks

An easy way to do this is turn your lights on between 6pm and 7pm and turn them off when you can't see the flares.
usually around 12 with them on.

probably overkill as a reference for this game, but im sure the in-game law reflects something within this list that pretty consistent.

An easier way to do this is just drive with your lights always on. Most trucks in America do that IRL anyway. Spend any time driving down an interstate and you will likely see a truck with a message on the back "We drive with our lights always on for your safety."

Because of AI drivers running into you and you get the ticket.
The right turn on red doesn't always work like it should and you get the ticket.
The way you don't even have to pull over when you do something illegal.
Static Police cars that are always sitting in the same spot.
The frequency of having to stop at weigh stations is too high. If I play for 2 hours it just doesn't 'feel' right having to stop 4 times to get weighed.
You get a ticket if you're tired and don't sleep when it says you have to sleep.
The fines don't match with the bajillions of cash you make - so there's no real penalty except for with the first few hours of game play - so it's just annoying and nothing else.
All that makes it annoying and too immersion wrecking. Doesn't add to the experience.
That doesn't mean you'll be driving like a maniac with it off and occasionally it is fun to do that.
And that's just some of the things - could list even more.
That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it.

At least one the state, either Oregon or Washington, does have headlight requirements. There are signs when crossing the border that tell you to turn your lights on. It's best just to drive with them on all the time anyway. It's not going to hurt anything.

my link to the 50 states of semi truck laws say this. Likely the game requires you to turn lights on at "sunset" like many states do by law, but arguably, SCS might have a discrepancy of what time sunset starts lol."

a few states have a sunset law regarding headlights. some are 30mins before, during or 30 after. 7:30pm is technically "sunset time" colloquially. so you were fined because it was "sunset" regardless of what the in-game sun was showing you. usually when the sun is in your face while driving, thats sunset, and IRL Law says turn your lights on for safety reasons.
scs just has a hard time implementing laws in a way that feels dynamic or realistic, because its so strict, so to speak.

I'm not sure if you're from the U.S. or not, but for anyone who isn't, it's worth pointing out that even when turning right you still have to come to a stop for red lights. I drive ATS red lights the same way I do in real-life, and I've never had an issue in-game.

When turning right, I've been using it the same way as you would a stop sign. Slow down and check for traffic, and if it's clear then I turn right. Only times Iv'e been fined for red light offences is when I haven't slowed down in time and ended up slightly going over the line when the light is red.

Agreed, speed is unrelated to fines unless it interferes with your lane holding.

In ATS, you don't need to stop for the red light as long as you have your right signal light on. But if you swing wide for the turn, then you might register in the through / left lane and still get the fine. Or if you have "Auto blinker turn off" enabled, you might accidentally switch it off before making the turn and get fined as well.
