Why is the Anthem so low in horsepower?
505 horsepower for the best engine is a bit low. Renders the Anthem almost useless for anything except light loads.

I would suggest an engine mod that is set up for the default trucks.
Plenty of them on the workshop.

I'm playing in real auto mode. But still struggle to keep up with traffic with any load heavier than 60,000lbs. Thats with the 505

I'm trying not to use too many mods. I only use a few, mostly skins and signage.

The transmission gear ratio makes a difference, as well. If you're struggling to get moving, try using one with a higher gear ratio. It's not all about horse power. ;)

Torque matters way more than horsepower. Trucks aren't sport cars designed to go 75+ MPH, they're meant to pull heavy loads. 505 HP is plenty when your engine is making 1500+ lb-ft and has the right gearing

Looking at the Mack website 505 hp is the largest engine available in the Anthem IRL.

60000lbs payload and add the weight of the truck and trailer and you are easily around the 80000lb mark. As mentioned, torque is king, not hp, so with a modern engine, you keep the rpm's low, usually between 1000-1500 and accept what it does, even if you have to let up off the throttle while your climbing a hill. You'll actually lose more speed if you have it floored with the rpm's in the next galaxy. Also I don't do more than 65mph in any truck and don't care about keeping up with traffic, cause it ain't gonna happen.

Infact you'll have a more pleasant time playing if you just chill and cruise than tailgate your way though traffic. You will end up having to brake behind other trucks anyways on climbs.

I find that the sweetspot is actually around 460-560hp, depending on brand. Unless ofcourse youre doing super heavy pulls.

Also for RP reasons it's fun to make due with less and only use euro6 emission engines ect. (for ETS2)

As said by many before me, HP isn't the only thing you need to look at, torque is where you get your true value from. Horsepower will give you straight line speed, but that's not what you need. Torque's what'll determine what you can/should haul (weight-wise) with your equipment.

Lower RPM's equal better mileage, which equals more money kept in your pocket IRL. Posted speed limits are truly intended for four-wheeler's, not tractor-trailers. You drive at what speed is both safe and what you're comfortable (safe again) driving at. Words to live by, and remain to be alive by. As spoken by my Father In-Law...a real life trucker for almost 40 years. 'Nuf said.

Insofar as transmissions, automatic's are where it's at IRL. On many/most new trucks, auto's are what's installed at the factory. Manual's are rarely selected options that cost more to order and to maintain (including clutches, bearings, etc.) down the road.

You're on the right track Maj.Woody.

505 is good bro, in Brazil trucks haul 100,000 lbs with that

If you cant keep up with traffic you are a hazard

Which engine/transmission combo do you recommend for the Anthem? Stock only please, no mods!

The 505 and Allison 7 speed will get you anywhere with any load, in a hurry. If you like to shift manually, just grab an 18 speed EF.

Driving the Anthem for more than 100,000 miles in the game with 505 hp, 18 speed EF, grossweights up to 100k lbs and almost 65 mph on flat level. The Anthem does not sprint like a sportscar, but at 65 mph the MP8 works very well and there is no problem with the traffic. The MP8 with 1,860lb.-ft means a high and sufficient torque and my personal view is, that with the Anthem and its 505hp engine the feeling is similar to real life than with more others.
It may be that some people are astonished when trucks with heavy load loose speed running up the hill and there are engine mods and also some default vehicle combinations, which gives you a unreal feeling like riding in a large SUV with automatics going uphill and downhill always with the same speed.
So I like the Anthem, it's ok and a really honest and fine work horse. Torque is the only significant factor for heavy load, not hp. High hp only lead to low mpg and you can overtake the other trucks while refueling.
