I actally think this would be useful. I have countlessly missed exits because I didn't see them coming.

Perhaps you need to zoom out on your GPS, then? I can see my exits coming from a long ways off, usually with enough time to pass a slow truck or bus in front of me before I get to the off-ramp. I've only missed an exit once or twice and that was because I wasn't paying attention to the GPS. Oops!

@~{DCMT}~ Ryu: Yup, same here... lol

I think a realistic GPS would add tons of realism to the simulation. I have suggsted this over a year ago on ETS2 forums.

SCS could try to partner with someone like Garmin and release a Garmin GPS DLC that would not only add voice navigation but points of interest, etc, and most importantly make the GPS map show terrain colors instead of the dull black backround behind roads.

Just like partnering with other companies in the trucking universe partnering with Garmin would be great for game realism, and I for one would be more than willing to pay even $15+ for a well executed Garmin in-game GPS system that matches the functions of their real world GPS units.

There could also be options to buy different GPS units with different features for your truck, such as integrated dash cam that could record a video of your drive for upload to video sharing sites, etc...

So much potential with this...

Yes it would be much more immersive and I would not have difficulty to spend for a DLC like this and for those who do not like, they would have that to disable the voice ;)

Yeah I am not holding my breath it’s been nearly 2 years since I suggested this to SCS and still nothing.
Also it seems SCS has incapable people when it comes to licensing; because I recently had interaction with Renault on Twitter and they had no idea that SCS even wanted to license their new Renault T truck, and when I twice retweeted at SCS they did not even bother to respond. No wonder we have no new Truck brand in ATS or ETS with this sort of attitude from SCS.

When it comes to licensing and innovative new features like realistic GPS integration, I get the impression SCS is miles behind even attempting something like this.

I think that Renault is to large for efficient communication unless it is nesessary. Therefore, the liscensing department would not have bothered to share any ETS2 liscence detail with the PR team, as that is something they do not need to do their job.

Rand McNally is also another brand of truck GPS. I hear more about the Rand McNally though than the Garmin units. The company my brother is with will only allow Rand McNally in their trucks, albeit atlas or gps because the driver has to buy the unit.

I tried that and almost wrecked when the road made a 90 degree turn. The way to go straight had those virtual X's across, which I have yet to try and go through....

Shame in the three years from this thread starting we have seen very little improvement to the GPS navigation in-game.

Voice navigation is one thing, but what bugs me the most is the damn black map; no GPS in existence has a black map, you always have colored topography as a background to the roads, you can see rives, lakes, forests, city boundaries.

The GPS is just terribly implemented in ETS2 and ATS.

There has been some recent discussion over on the forum about something they are working on with this. I don't have all the details so I don't want to misrepresent a timeline but I believe there will be a voice option coming.
