Best starter truck?
Hey all!

So I've played both ATS and ETS2 casually for a couple of years, but haven't seriously got into them other than just doing quick jobs. This time I want to truly explore what the games have all to offer, starting with ATS since I'm in the US and branching out into ETS2 when I max ATS. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is as far as their first truck goes? I did research before posting this but all the previous relevant posts are a few years old, before more brands were introduced to the game and wanted to see if anyone's opinion had changed since. I'm thinking of doing a few quick jobs and then taking out a 100k bank loan once I have the extra remaining funds, or bigger if suggested otherwise. Feel free to give me your opinion on ETS2's trucks as well because I'll have the same question when I move over to that game. I have no knowledge of what to look for in a truck whatsoever if anyone can help a girl out please!

The honest answer is: The best truck is the truck you like the most. Same goes for ETS2.

You will have to upgrade your truck over time to have it more powerfull, though.

If you are wanting the information to help you choose which truck to buy I think you are better off making that choice yourself by doing the quick jobs. If you do a lot of quick jobs to start with which is what I do whenever I start a new profile and try all of the trucks and then select the one you like best. Also, while doing the quick jobs make sure to discover all of the truck dealerships for each of the manufacturers and visit them and check the trucks out.

Personally, I love the MACK but I like all the trucks in the game and end up buying every truck in the game and drive them when I am in the mood.

Thank you guys for the comments. I really just didn't know whether there were any specifications to necessarily look for when shopping to weed out any "bad" running trucks.

If you like to use cruise control and sit back and relax I suggest you get a transmission with a retarder and then set cruise control in the Gameplay options to zero tolerance. Apart from that 6 X 4 option for chassis.

Regarding bad running trucks, there are none just players preferences.

If you want one of the long-nosed ones (W900 or 389), I'd go with the Kenworth over the Peterbilt. It rides a bit higher up, has better visibility, and generally (in m y opinion anyway) looks better. It's a larger truck, but the length is perfectly manageable (about as long as a sleeper cab T680) if you don't have a sleeper on.

6x4 chassis is a must, and with the 200gal tanks on the W900 you can go close to 1000 miles before needing to refuel.

Again, it's really just up to personal preference. Pick the truck you like the best. One note though: The mirrors on the Mack are really far out to the sides, so unless you move your seat or have a really wide screen, you can't see them without moving.

I'd disagree about the Ken over the Pete, the Ken's exhaust stacks obscure the rear view and its narrow windshield means that traffic lights disappear if you get too close. Minor things though.

In general, all the trucks max out at around 600~ish hp, except the Mack (505), and they all have similar trans options, so its really down to preference. I like the look of the Mack the most but its low max hp made me choose the Freightliner instead. The Cascadia has really good visibility, in any case, good mirror and window position.

Its little things for me. Like where the add on GPS gets located, how mirrors line up. Some cabs you can't be as close to the stearing wheel. I like to have FOV around 52-58 if possible.
I use the forward view , then left up and right up to see my mirrors. Its also possible to play with the left mirror viewable in the forward view if you go higher FOV. Or you can use the center view but that gives the impression that you are closer to the road. Looks mor elike your in a car. Which views you prefer most, can influence which truck gives you the best visibility for your preferences.

I used to have a favorite, but lately my current fave is the one I am driving at any given time. Still have my 1st truck and it still has the most miles, but I have a large collection now over several profiles and various maps.

W900 is my favorite. I also like the Mack.

Personalmente en ATS uso el T680 o W900 (625 cv) - En ETS2 uso Volvo FH Globe (750) - versión 6x4. Llevas cualquier tipo y peso de carga sin problemas...
