Western Star 49X - SBA vs SFA
Hey guys, what is the difference between those two chassis?

Is there any maneuverability differences? What is the most used IRL?

Thanks

Depends on what you're using the truck for in real life.

Well, here's my dumb question: what are the definitions of those acronyms?
Trucker_71 Feb 5, 2021 @ 7:02pm
SBA= set back axle
SFA= set forward axle.
They're referring to the steering axle. It has to do with weight distribution.

Now that's what I call excellent service! Thanks Trucker_71 👍

Ingame there seems to be little point in using SFA, since SBA has slightly better maneuverability. Or am I missing something?

That's what was also said in the Stream.

In the application this truck is used in, SBA is a more common spec for manoeuvrability in tight job sites etc. SFA is typically used more in linehaul applications.

So then if I choose Forward rather then Back, I'm trading in the better maneuverability of SBA for... what exactly? What is gained by moving the front axle forward? More stability? More traction?

IRL - you get better stability and improved ride with a SFA - in the game, you only get a different look, no benefits of RL are incorporated in the physics...

Where i am in northern BC, pretty well all WS are SB. Shorter wheel base = Better maneuverability for our cutblocks/logging roads. it also puts more weight on the steer axle, and in the winter having all the weight on the drives and non on the steers is bad news when your pulling 80,000KG down the road

Thank you!

Today I switched from SBA to SFA on my WS49 and didn't notice any difference - other than it reset the whole truck as stated! At least it gave me a chance to revise my truck but it cost me dearly. Oh well, it's all part of the 1.40 beta learning curve. So far, I love it.
SFA looks better, SBA maneuvers better... :)

Could you please post a picture of the difference between SBA & SFA. I still can't tell'em apart. Thx.
