Linux gaming pc recognizes Thrustmaster wheel but game doesn't.
I happened to have a Thrustmaster wheel that is usb, so I decided to see if it would work with this game. I am playing the game on a Linux Ubuntu 20.04 current distro. The wheel is usb so that's a start. I plugged it in and it looks like Linux recognizes it. Here is the dmesg output:

[ 1.502571] usb 6-2: New USB device found, idVendor=044f, idProduct=b671, bcdDevice= 1.00
[ 1.502574] usb 6-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 1.502577] usb 6-2: Product: Ferrari 458 Spider
[ 1.502579] usb 6-2: Manufacturer: Thrustmaster
[ 1.502581] usb 6-2: SerialNumber: 0000XXXXXXXXXXX
[ 2.098306] usb 4-2: new full-speed USB device number 3 using uhci_hcd

It is a Ferrari 458 Spider model so this is all correct. I know it's not a common wheel like the ones I saw when I did my search for this issue so my expectations are low at this point. The game doesn't recognize that any controller is plugged in, and was curious if anyone was able to get a similar setup working? Do the Devs need to add some code to recognize this wheel? Thoughts anyone?
Thanks.

If the wheel you mention is this one: http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_US/products/ferrari-458-spider-racing-wheel then it is for Xbox only, not for use on PC.

The Ferrari 458 Italia Edition is the one that works on Xbox and PC.

Thanks. Their website seems to contradict itself. When I went to the link you provided it said that drivers could be downloaded on ts.thrustmaster.com. When I went to that page it said this:

=====================
The Ferrari 458 Spider RW is an Xbox One compliant racing wheel.

It is not supported by Windows platforms, and there are no drivers for it to work on Windows.

Windows computers may detect the wheel and some of its buttons might work, but it will not be fully functional.

If you are interested in a wheel which is PC compliant, please visit our commercial website, where you can find all our wheels:
=====================

So I am guessing that it's not going to work on my Linux setup. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the help though. :)

AFAIK Thrustmaster wheels dont have official support on Linux and unofficial works only without FFB. Unless something has changed recently. Better go with Logitech, which should have some basic kernel support in actual versions. I have g920 and TH8A running on Ubuntu 18.04.
Edit: Idk if its in 20.04 repos but try to install jstest-gtk to check if your problem is system or game related.

I've modified the xpad driver to support it.

Wow! Thanks. I will pull the wheel back out here at some point and see if it works now. I appreciate it!
