Oculus Rift S VR settings in 1.40...
Recently have gotten the Oculus Rift S headset and was hoping someone with the same can share some settings info on how to get it operate at the best possible view. Have already done the startup option of -oculus and disabled HDR but still not as clear as I had hoped in gameplay, unless I expected much more than what it can do...appreciate any help...thanks

it becomes a minigame of reloading it over and over to see how performance changes are from editing the config file in Documents folder and or from changing some settings in your video options. the main one in the config.cfg is:

uset r_manual_stereo_buffer_scale "1.0"

and you want to change this from 1.1 1.2 1.3, etc until it gives you what you may like with the tradeoff of fps. 1.6 seems to be a setting a few folks use.

the other option is that scaling one in the video part of options of the game itself. normally without vr, you raise that up from 100, to 200, 300 all the way up to 400.
some folks say to leave this at 100 and just change the config.
others say to mix match both of these options.. i think it also may depend on the card.
it changes clarity and resolution versus adding a drop in framerate, just like the config one does. turning down other settings from ultra down to medium and such might help curb it some if you have to.

unfortunately for me, i have a windows mixed reality headset. while it wasnt the cheapest one, it isnt an expensive vr headset either.
with the 1.4 update and as well as the steamvm updates, it has made ATS in vr unplayable mess for me due to the drop in fps. so. now my vr is just for my flight sims and other games.
good luck with yours.

Thanks for your response...I had read in an earlier post that they had changed the"stereo_buffer" to 1.75 and I tried that but it made the truck feel like it had square wheels...I will continue to try different things but after a while it gets old and maybe hit the mark at some point, but I would still appreciate any more input ...

I'm having issues too. I have a Quest 2. It doesn't seem to matter what I do in the config, it makes no difference in game other than making the game look SUPER BAD. Higher res? Looks lower. Higher sampling? Looks lower, and both make the frame rate tank. The only settings that actually make it look BETTER are the settings in the game - and then it still doesn't look amazing. Just... Better. And frame rate isn't an issue when I change those settings either.

I do only have a GTX 1060 6GB so I know I'm on the lower end, but it seems to run other games fine. Is that my problem here? No other limiting factors at all.

Edit: Most of all the settings/directions I find on the web are years old and some of the config lines referenced aren't even in there anymore.

So it's not just me. Received my Rift-S the same day the 1.40 update popped so I couldn't really tell if it had something to do with the update or I was just expecting to much.

Then I picked up "No Man's Sky" and played it on ultra settings and wow, it looked beautiful. My question is towards people who have played ATS in VR in previous versions.

Was it always this blurry? The cab itself doesn't look to bad, but everything outside the cab(first person view) looks like I just drank a fifth of bourbon. Including the mirrors.

hey, og rift owner here. if it's blurriness specifically, disable antialiasing and depth of field, see how that goes. i was pretty taken aback when i first tried ats in vr as well, it was, well, crap. the above fixed it nicely for me.

also, as others said, keep the in-game scaling at 100% and play with supersampling value in the config file. i'm running a (t)rusty ol' titan x and 1.3 works without a performance hit.

I have tried many different things but just went back to the way it was originally when played on my monitor, it seems that when I scaled back settings or shut off anti-aliasing,DOF ...it just made it worse. I haven't played the game with VR prior to the 1.40 update so I can't say if this worsens the experience, but my monitor is high end and maybe I am spoiled on it's clarity...strangely enough though ETS2 is a bit clearer than ATS in VR...hopefully soon either Steam or SCS, whoever would do this, will make it VR compatible...it is not on steam's list of VR compatible games...but a game called Forklift Simulator is....go figure, anyway, thanks to all for your input, greatly appreciated...

That's because the devs don't support VR for it. It wasn't made with that in mind.
