Can't see anything at night even with high beam headlights on?
Why does the game have to be so dark now? Back in 1.3.9 the lights were much brighter. Now I run off the road without knowing it until I hear it due to how dark this game is.

There are definitely stars but it may depend on the current skybox or how much ambient lighting there is.
Also I find it easier to see at night than the previous version.

There is a pretty good headlight mod for 1.40 in the workshop.

I had the same issue until I disabled my mods. I tried making a new profile which also fixed the issue for me.

Why is my game, which has the same GFX settings as ver 1.39, not having this problem?

All looks fine to me.
Why not look through the windshield, as if you were driving and compare your view, then post a screenshot of it again.

Yeah right, "All looks fine to me", Except at you have a 128 errors in game.log lolz

3 suggestions:

1. Adjust in-game brightness.
2. Turn off or reduce the lights in your room.
3. Adjust your monitor settings. Some monitors come with preset profiles for different situations and further, you may be able to create a custom profile and save it.

You can do anyone of these or all of them.

128 errors that didn't affect gameplay or the visuals, it was the first time running ATS after the update was installed and the missing cities for connecting to Wyoming caused a lot, the rest were scenery loading. I haven't had a crash in ATS or ETS2 since I can remember.
Definitely no problems with the lighting or colours, though.:steamhappy:

Except those errors can cause problems with variables not working, lighting too.

I agree with you, don't see stars at night. Trucks without lights. All very dark. We have a version only for daytime use ... a shame

I must say, I was shocked to find out upon updating to 1.40 that my lighting was exactly the same as in SkittyChips's screenshots above. I lost my way on a forest road because I couldn't see a thing, even with my high beams on, and with everything checked on the F4 options panel. I've never run a mod in my life. The dash is also very difficult to see.

I understand that many people run mods. But that kind of explanation just doesn't work for people like us who have never installed one. I love this game, but now it's almost impossible to drive at night.

I agree. No mod at all, new profile.

I was not able to see the entrance to a dirt track at night, according to the gps it was right next to it, but it was impossible to see it with those new lights now that hardly illuminate from the front, even less on the sides.

High beams don't help either, they're like a pocket flashlight

Hope they fix it

Edit: So, during the day everything is burned by that blinding white and at night you can't see anything. Not very happy.

Hmmm, Is it then at SCS turn in to darkside? :D
Note: I am still not visited in ATS / ETS2 since update because busy to get mods updated.

Can you imagine it, at least?
I can

with high beam and auxlilery lights on its still darker than it was in 1.39 with low beam on at night but the darkness is more life like. Having been a professional driver who only drove at night it is more realistic now. but the headlights need to be brighter on high beam.

My probs r driving during the day. everything is way too bright.
