Why are the engines so weak (compared to ETS 2)
The highest horsepower and torque is arround 610 HP with arround 2800NM of torque while on ETS 2 the highest engine power is 750 HP with 3500NM of torque wich u can only put in the volvo but seeing as volvo is also in ATS why not implement the same engine?

Why not use the truck manufacturers website to find out about engine ratings in the real world? American trucks are built completely differently to European trucks, or hadn't you noticed? :steamfacepalm:
SCS try to keep to the actual manufacturers specs of all their trucks, if you want to go and drive fantasy trucks, perhaps mods are what you are looking for, you can have as much unrealistic torque and HP as you want. Try searching the Workshop.
Then Create mods first.

The problem is trucks with 750 hp are not the standard in reality, they are for heavy hawls only . Normaly most of the trucks have between 400 and 550 hp in reality, they don't need not more for max 24t load.
But people think in ETS2 a 4 axle truck with 750 hp are perfekt for a 3t flower load.

because SCS wants to keep their truck specs as realistic as possible.

The vast majority of loads in the US are anywhere from 43,000 to 80,000 pounds. It's not about the horsepower of the engines, but the torque they provide for pulling the loads. With the right engine and transmission combination for the job, trucks can pull just about all your standard loads without a single problem.

Probably this mostly. Do trucks in Europe spend more time accelerating, slowing, accelerating? More torque (HP counts for almost nothing) would make life easier in driving that involved more stop and go...

It's much more fun to try to handle a heavy load with a lightly powered truck anyway.

Most of the european truck brands offer engines with HP similar to the North American trucks. The exception is the 700+ engines from Volvo and Scania. So you should also ask why the other european brands are so weak. SCS did not put the 750HP engine in the ATS Volvo because Volvo does not sell any trucks in North America with that engine.

While we are talking engines and power. Which is more important….hp or torque?

Is is about just getting the highest hp and most torque? Being money is not an issue here I guess just go big.

Not even sure how to read torque numbers…. But also haven’t researched.

In game, HP is just a number that shows up at the dealer. In the truck's file you could change it to a million and that is the only effect it would have, on the "sticker" at the dealer. The truck would drive exactly the same. Only torque determines the performance of the tractor.
Torque numbers express a linear characteristic, twice the number, twice the torque. No need to get farther into the weeds than that.

Torque. HP is a measure of RPM and Torque, and torque is a measure of how much weight it could lift placed a foot away from the torque source, hence the name ft/lb.
The difference isn't in the engine, it's in the gearing. The lower geared something is, the more the force is multiplied, but the less distance is travelled.
If you had 50 ft/lb of torque at the engine and ran it through a 1:1 gear on a transmission into an axle with a 3.10 gear ratio, you'd lower the rpm by 3.10 times and raise the torque by 3.10 times, so you'd have around 150 ft/lb of torque.
The higher the number, the slower the speed, but the more torque you make.

TL:DR; Tons of horsepower doesn't make a truck better at hauling more weight, higher torque and lower gearing does.

I really didnt expect the ammount of response on this and i truly did not know that Volvo doesnt sell really high HP/Torque engines in the USA so i guess that's my awnser, They wanna keep it realistic wich, right now, it is.

One thing also to remember: US loads are fairly light when compared to Euro. Where US loads are generally in the 40,000 lbs (~18 tons) range, Euro trucks pull 40+ ton loads all the time. Hell, the High Capacity Vehicles pull 70+ ton log loads up here in north.

There are American engines that have the same torque specs but with less horsepower in the game. Horsepower in the game is for flat and level roads. You get more top end speeds. Which is good for easy routes like down I-40 or I-10. But does you no good going up hills and starting from a dead stop.
I don't have ETS so can't tell you what works there but in ATS you need a lot of torque.

If I had a choice between a Scania :v8a: and a American truck, I will always go for the Scania :v8a:

At 16.4 litres, 770 hp and a torque of 3700 NM the Scania 770S :v8a: is the world's strongest truck and this legendary :v8a: is stronger :flex: than ever before.
https://www.scania.com/group/en/home/products-and-services/trucks/v8.html

Driving a King of the Road Scania :v8a: is a prestige and I have been lucky to drive one of these, albeit a older model used as a crane truck but with a nice roar to it.

My biggest dream is to drive the Scania 770S :v8a: :flex:
