External contracts and world of trucks
Hi everyone.

I was trying to find information about what World of Trucks and external contracts were all about. I watched some YouTube videos and did Google searches and I dont see why someone would use those features instead of the regular freight contracts.

What am I missing in understanding what World of Trucks is all about?

WoT is from SCS (the devs of ATS and ETS2) through which you can get contracts (external contracts) which you can take in the game. For this you need to have a WoT account and the games connected to your WoT account. You also have to be online and signed into your WoT account when in-game to take these contracts.
WoT contracts are different from the regular contracts as the remaning time is IRL time (it also goes down when you quit the game), the speed limiter is always on during these, you can not teleport and load earlier saves and you can not get towed without loosing the contract.
There are also events which need you to deliver cargo via external contracts to get in-game items (mostly accessories) that you can not get otherwise.

Oh, cool. I didn't know that. So basically, drive like your life depends on it. :) no save-scumming or speeding allowed. I like that.
You can indeed speed, but you are limited to 65, you can do 65 in a 30 zone if you'd like.
WoT also does some record keeping for you, more in depth in that it keeps track of miles driven in all profiles, weight hauled, average weight, frequency of skipping parking etc.
The IRL time is perhaps the biggest difference, generally a blessing (make a wrong turn or go exploring and you will not use up your limited in game time) but a curse in that if you take a job at noon real time on Friday and you have 24 hours to complete it, if you leave the game, get caught up in something, get back to the game and can't complete the job by noonreal time on Saturday, you've failed.

That's a little bit too much of a commitment for me. I wouldn't do a hauling job in a game that took more than 2 hours IRL.
The 24 real time hours could be for a job that only took 5 real time minutes, an hour and a half or so in game.

Each hour is 3 minutes...

They give you a lot more jobs you can choose from and makes it so you can head where you want to more often instead of taking the jobs they offer in regular freight. You might see two or three low-paying jobs that you don't want to haul in regular freight at a stop while external contacts might list 10 or 20 jobs with a wider variety of loads.
The speed limit of 65 is rarely something you need to be bothered with as you're never gettin' close to cruising for very long at those speeds anyways.

Each hour 3 minutes as a rule, yes. But I've noticed that there is a difference when driving on the highway, in the city, or on a country road. If I have read it correctly somewhere, the time on country roads and in the city is only a factor of 2 or so, and on highways factor 3. The map size is about 1:19; but the driving times indicated in the assignments, and on your navigation are approximately Real Life, as well in extern contracts as in WoT

The map and time scale in the game is as following:
1:20 outside of cities
1:3 inside of cities

@ Wolfgang; Thank you :)

@TheMarcosianOne;
I myself, compare the freight offers when it comes to choosing an external contract or a WoT. It depends on how much time I have myself, I think ahead what I still need/want to do privately. For example, if I have a whole day to drive, I take a ride that goes from Hobbs (NM) to Bellingham (WA), either in external contracts, or in WoT. In WoT I have to get at least 20 hours or so to deliver, if I have less "playing time". I'll let that depend on the price, or weight. Sometimes WoT pays better, sometimes external contracts. That again depends on how much money I can/want to spend on trucks/garages etc. When I have a few million again, I look at what I like, or "Where are we going today".
The "danger" is that with an external contract everything goes to "Hold" when you close your game, so the delivery time does not continue. With a WoT contract, the delivery time continues, even if you even shut down your PC.

Some terminology mix up there.

Quick Job = job generated by your game using their truck and their trailer
Freight Market = job generated by your game using your own truck but their trailer
Cargo Market = job generated by your game using your own truck and your own trailer
External Contract = job generated by WoT using your own truck but their trailer
External Market = job generated by WoT using your own truck and your own trailer

Too bad it isn't multiplayer with other players driving around at the same time. :)
You can do it with the 1,41 Update, then you can play with 7 other players on your own mp.
