Realistic backing?
I started a new career irl as a long distance truck driver. I drive a lot, but I don't back up often. Can someone tell me if this game has realistic backup simulations? I'm looking to improve myself irl. Could this game help?

The game will help however it is not going to be a true to life situation. It will give you an idea of what needs to be done.

I suggest grabbing the demo and seeing if you will like it.

I would say it has pretty good backing simulation. Honestly the areas it asks you to go are way tighter than most of what you encounter in RL. Beyond that, it helped me understand backing better. Also made me realize how much I love fender mirrors over a stupid passenger side only rear facing camera.....wish the truck I drove for US Xpress had fender mirrors. Then I mighta been able to see my trailer when I turned.

With the external cameras, it's a great sim for showing you the physics of how the truck interacts with the trailer(s)

Backing in these games helped with maneuvering my camping trailer.

I retired from driving over the road , this game does not give a proper representation of driving a truck . when you get into the real truck , it will 100% different on every level .

no way.. how disappointing! have you tried if VR helps with representation?

For tandem trailer axels its alright. But for any type of split axel, its not very good. The one thing I noticed about driving and backing up a split axel flatbed irl, is that they HATE to turn at all. They tend to twist along the frame, often times dragging that front axel along the ground sideways. Its really annoying when trying to back into tight spots.

But in game the front axel on a split axel flatbed just slides like its on ice, which ends up making everything way too easy.

Honestly, the best way to learn how to back up irl is to just do it a lot! Find a big open section of parking spaces and just do your best to back up into them. Also, theres no shame at all in getting out to look where your trailer is. Doing that will show that you care about not hitting anything. Dont let anyone rush you either. Take your time, go slow, and pay attention.

Also, for god sakes driver, get yourself a CB if you dont already have it. It can save your life, as well as others.
