Saw it done out East (Kentucky).
It's not easy to do.
In real life, you drop one, go deliver the other, come back, get the other one, deliver it and you're empty.
The game does not allow you to disconnect doubles from each other, unfortunately. In real life, you'd typically have a front hitch on the front bumper with a simple drop pin(since they're pintle hitches) and you'd drive forward to reverse a pup with the dolly itself. Again, unfortunately this isn't modeled in-game. This can also be done with a hitch on the rear of the tractor, which seems more common in North America, whereas the pintle on the front is more of an Australian thing. Yard dogs(terminal tractors, etc) would typically have a hitch on the rear, and those would typically be the vehicles connecting and breaking down A-double combinations, not your average trucker.
I've looked on YouTube quite a bit for videos of reversing A-doubles, both "how-to" and "just to show." Most of the results are about B-doubles. It appears much more rare than I thought previously to back A-doubles in day-to-day trucking.

So can it be done? Absolutely. Both in-game and real life. Is it worth the headache? Not really. I don't have any tips for you, as I've only done it a couple of times, but what I can say is that you should never attempt to 90-degree back a set of A-doubles. You should only ever go straight back. You need several hundred feet of curve to turn unless you want to jackknife instantly.
Have fun.

In-game I don't even bother driving doubles or triples because sometimes you get the most braindead "delivery spots" ever. They are easier to drive around than long singles (around corners and such) but as soon as you need to reverse you are usually ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
So I guess pray for a easy "delivery spot" or lose your mind once you arrive at your destination lol.
If you can't get that on the first try then just skip it because the lots aren't nowhere big enough to be backing up and re-positioning. If you're incredibly stuck on something where you can only back out, hit F7 to call a towtruck.
