Refer vs Insulated vs Dry
Is there anything a Dry trailer can carry that an Insulated or Refer cant?
Is there anything an Insulated can carry that a Refer cant?

Obviously the refer can carry the coldest things, but can it also be used to carry just regular items that dont care what temp it is?

In other words, if I already have a Refer is there a point to getting a Dry or Insulated?

A reefer can haul anything a dry or insulated can.

A reefer trailer is the best because you can haul cool or hot in it.

I don't know if the game simulates this or not, but the only bad thing about a reefer is that they can't quite haul as much weight that a dry van could for example, or insulated. Reason being that the reefer has it's own weight, on top of the fuel you need for the unit itself.

Now, again, I'm not sure if this has been simulated in the game or not; haven't really tested this, so can't say for sure.

With the default economy in a very short time you can buy every trailer in the game, if you want your purchase choices to matter try using a realistic economy mod then deciding what trailer is the most useful will make a difference.

I would say it does. Every cargo has a volume and a mass. Every trailer has a volume and a gross weight limit which factors in the weight of the trailer itself. Every region (state in ATS, country in ETS2) has axle gross weight limits. Best as I can tell the game works out how much volume of a cargo will fit into a trailer and reduces that until the gross weight of the trailer fits under the limits. This means that if a cargo can be hauled in a dry van then, unless limited by volume rather than weight, you will always be to haul more of it that way than you would in a reefer or insulated trailer of the same size.

Right, but I don't know if this is the case for the game as I've not done any comparisons into the matter. I know this to be the case in real life as I had a small discussion about this with a couple truckers in Discord a couple weeks ago.

I have checked, and for general/dry cargo, the game does adjust the cargo weight depending on trailer type. A dry van will carry more than insulated which will carry more than a reefer. The same thing goes for some flatbed loads too, the cargo weight depends on the length of flatbed you have and number of axles.

Ah right, that makes sense. So the game already does that, good to know.
