Sorry but updates do not corrupt an entire game. There might be a missing file or two that a file integrity check solves.
Your graphics card is probably the culprit here though. Even though the GTX 580 can run DX12, it will only do so at feature level 11.0 of DirectX.
ATS and ETS2 run on feature level 11.1. With thr current situation with graphics cards I can understand the pain of not wanting to shell out for a card that people are asking truly insane amounts of money for.
There are reports lately that MicroCenter(if you have one close), BestBuy and other retailers that are selling some of the newer cards at manufacturer suggested retail prices. These are only found in store though.
Why would you say that you are not using any mods. Your game is full of mods. So you are using mods.

As to the corrupted files it sounds like a storage problem, it is certainly not normal to have to keep re-downloading files.
ATS is currently one of the best simulations on the market and I truly enjoy it.
However, just like elWexler, I sometimes do have the exact same issue after an update is done and I can understand the frustration. I have never used any mods since the game was installed. When I verify the game files to fix it, it will always repair and re-download the base.scs file which is about 5GB in size now.
I have mentioned this in a couple of earlier discussion threads and have been told by community friends that it could be caused by how STEAM delivers these updates to certain user. I believe it's randomly effecting a small percentage of users and not the fault of the developers or the publisher.
I have tried the following:
- running the game as administrator
- only updating the game when I launch it
- launching the game with DirectX 11
Game crashes after updates still do happen but not always.
I am lucky because I recently switched to high speed broadband and it only takes several minutes to re-download the base.scs file.
Happy trucking. Cheers! :)

I suggest deleting the last autosave and relaunching the game.
In Steam, right click on the game, select properties, goto local files tab and press verify integrity of game files.
If there is a bad file, only that file will be downloaded, rather than all of them.
I specifically stated the sitution in which i've done the file integrity check multiple times and it toss me to download the base game file, which is 5.7 gbs (almost the entire game)
Also staded why i do the re-instalation which is it had happend to me after downloaded the base game file thru file integrity check process, game have worked with graphics bugs and to avoid what's potentially having to download what's basically t whole game twice in a row (base game corrupted file, thru file check integrity and havin to re-install the game anyways when this isn't enough...) i just do after the update corrupted the game files a re-install then game works fine, always.
