Yellowstone
Is it just me or is there not a whole lot of Yellowstone actually in the Yellowstone area? I thought this park would be great for ATS, because some of the major features can be seen from the road in real life. I just drove through it in the game and didn't see much of anything.

Read the blog that SCS posted regarding Yellowstone, they explain all about it.

There is a handy thing called "Google", I find it very useful, as well as keeping an eye on SCS announcements.

The map is 1:20 scale, not really a lot of space to put pretty scenery.

Blog post doesn't explain why there's nothing *in* the part they have, and pretty scenery is a large part of the game that they manage fine elsewhere.

They actually didn't need to include ANY of Yellowstone at all, trucks are explicitly barred from driving through. It was a little Easter Egg.

What are your expectations of Yellowstone, beyond what is in the game? How would it contribute to the truck driving experience? It is just a little bit of eye-candy, nothing more.:steamfacepalm:

I suspect he's also disappointed he cannot drive to the top of Devil's Tower and see the Close Encounters alien mothership at night. :steamsalty:

You suspect wrong. I wanted to see Devil's Tower in-game, and there it is. They even have the store out front where you can buy magnets.

Devil's Tower is actually the stump of an ancient, 10 miles high giant silicon tree

there's a video about this on YT :DD

I've been slating the addition of Yellowstone since embargo ended and I was allowed to talk about it.

It was the biggest waste of time adding it IMO. Once we have Montana and there's the Montana/Idaho connections it would make some sense, but as it stands right now, most of Yellowstone is missing, the important parts are not included because they are further North than what is in game.

The road itself is a dead-end. So there's absolutely no reason to go there since there isn't any delivery points up there, and there's no where to go but back. As beautiful as it is, it's completely and utterly pointless in its current form.

I honestly see no reason to add it at this point in time. They literally delayed the release for two weeks for this pointless inclusion.

Adding Cody and 14 would have been a much better reason for any delay IMO

SCS does not know how some logistics work in Yellowstone itself. There are gas stations in Yellowstone and what brings the gas? The trucks do. There are some businesses (Hotel resorts and campgrounds with shops) that operate in Yellowstone and even they need supplies that are brought in by trucks. I recently went to Yellowstone myself and I have seen fuel trucks, food delivery trucks and even gravel trucks going in and out. The gravel trucks bring in gravel for constructing more pull outs in the park.

Which is very very restrticted. And the game shows this pretty well. See here for more:

Important parts:
Vehicle size is limited to passenger cars or vans and trucks up to one ton in size; trailers are not allowed.
Commercial vehicles larger than one ton or those pulling any size trailer are still prohibited from park roads for commercial or business travel.

Commercial trucks can and do drive on national park roads - even oversize loads - as long as the proper permits are attained. Like for example if a bridge needed replaced it's doubtful the National Park Service would have the equipment and would bid the job out - a construction company would still have to get special permits to drive in and out from there.
Oversize loads are only permitted between Memorial Day and Labor Day between 9 am and 9 pm. - but that's something I doubt they could put into the game. In fact, a lot of areas all have their own rules and regulations regarding oversize loads which isn't represented in the game.
They could have put a stop at the end of the road there in Yellowstone - call it 'National Park Maintenance' or something fictional like they do. You'd be hauling construction equipment, logging equipment, foods, gas, propane -- everything a city would need. Have an entrance where you pay for your permits.

I live just 45 miles from a few of Canada's iconic parks like Banff and Kananaskis. When I was driving I had quite few trips into the parks and Banff itself. I'm sure its the same with Yellowstone, you get a permit and you drive where the public and the tourist do. How else are big and heavy things to get delivered and in some cases removed?
