Sleeper Cabs vs Day cabs
Is there a way I can use a Sleeper Cab and sleep wherever and whenever I need to? If not isn't a Sleeper Cab just for looks then? A Day Cab is more maneuverable, but a Sleeper Cab would help out a lot of you are not near a sleeping zone.

Sadly you must sleep in a designated area regardless of cab type. :steamsad:

So... the sleeper cab is just for looks? If I don't like driving it then Im changing back to the day cab.

it only adds looks.

I was wondering the same thing... You should be able to sleep in more places with a sleeper.. DOT doesn't like seeing truckers slumped over the steering wheel asleep anywhere in real life and will harass you if they catch you. Simple rule of thumb is day cabs are for the day... Trucks with sleepers are for over the road and long hauls. But yes the sleeper in the game is only for looks. In real life truckers have log books that require to be filled out for sleeper births. Day cabs can get away with avoiding log books by staying within a 100 some mile radius of the trucking company. If not the trucker over the 100 mile radius in a day cab usually gets a hotel and must show a receipt to DOT if asked or pay a hefty fine etc.

It's also not entirely legal for truckers to pull over to the shoulder (nor is it entirely safe either) for running out of hours or something. Some laws are beginning to change in regards to that by allowing some truckers to use PC time to get to a safe spot as quickly as possible.

So no, sleeper cabins even in the game are still working as intended IMO. You can only park in designated areas of the game and rest stops in order to sleep. Day cabs don't normally run very far and are used locally for delivery or moving freight around a metropolitan area. (or some other uses now and then)

How it's setup now does make more sense from a "realism" POV, but when I first started playing the game I did miss how things were in 18 Wheels of Steel when you could just pullover anywhere if you had a sleeper.

Sleeper Cab has bigger fuel tanks than the day cab does

and it's a video game, you need things to spend your earned moneys on

this is brought up every week, and if your driving for realism, then yes it is to use because you have to plan your route with sleep and fuel and delivery times as priority . however if your playing to go fast and reckless then set your controls for that. I drove for 33 years and I keep it realistic and screw up too. if you run a day cab realistic then your garages is a sleep area. no sleeping anywhere else. and sleepers in any designated areas.

What about at the motels that are scattered around the map? You don't use those at all?

Drivers sometimes sleep in the lot they dropped off a load at. I wouldn't mind seeing that in a few more places. There are very few spots like that in the game. I think they did a pretty good job at having just enough spots to sleep. Too many would diminish what little strategy there is in the game.
Besides all that, they give you plenty of time to make a delivery - sleeping isn't much to worry about.

I have been hoping for awhile now that SCS would make it to where you are forced to find a hotel (or at one of your garages of course) if you are driving a day cab (so no sleeping at truck stops either). Would add just a bit more realism to the game. And yes, I guess technically you COULD sleep in a day cab IRL, but that would be highly uncomfortable, lol

So basically, driving a day cab in this game is not realistic? Unless you stick to super short drives?

Motels don't have space for big ass trucks and their load. Even if you're driving empty you'll probably take up too much space in their tiny parking lot.

It's actually illegal to sleep in a Day-Cab. Sleepers are also required to be a minimum size to qualify for use as a Sleeping Berth.
