The AI Vehicles are really dumb
I really enjoy playing ATS but something's gotta be done about the AI vehicles. I don't mind the ones that go faster than you but some of the vehicles are super slow, don't pass or go slow when in the fast lane on the highways, etc.

That's the authentic trucker experience buddy. I drive up and down I-25 all week and lemme tell you people are just like that. They're dumber than a box of rocks.

Understatement.

SCS should hire Tesla.

Oh that's only a fraction of what makes the AI so much life-like. Soon you will discover the AI is doing everything it can to get you trapped into an insurance scam

Blue truck reversing on highway lane, black truck failled to yeild and black car not moving on the second lane, probably too busy looking out the window to realize there's a semi truck barrelling at 60 mph behind him

ive had that happen to me plenty of times in the end i just end up ramming them out the way yeah i know that means i risk damaging the load but it is all i can do to prevent getting hit with a late fee

AI is fine. Learn to live with them.

The AI is predictable. Alter your behaviour and minimise any risk of issues with them.

Yes there's also some bugs, but if you don't report them, SCS can't fix em.

It's a shame they can't work in intentionally stupid things with a limit to replicate real drivers.

I got t-boned by an AI driver who ran a red light. Now that's realistic 😂

It hurt him than it did me (just 3% damage). I did not stop and I looked at my mirror. He careened into another car going into the opposite direction. Serves him right for running the light.

on merging interchanges all the time

Believe it or not dude, thats actually VERY realistic lol

I'm a trucker myself, and the amount of idiocy I see on the roadways irl is insane. INCLUDING slow pokes in the center or left lanes who stay there, and even people coming to a dead stop on interstate merge lanes to wait for cars/trucks to pass them. Its infuriating sure, but its actually very realistic lmao

The only thing I think they need to change is when you stop at a stop sign or red light and you're just a little to far over the stop line, but theres still plenty of room for cars to cross in front of you, they shouldn't stop like you're blocking them.

AI in this game drives me nuts. Last night I was behind a truck with 2 trailers, turning right on a green light, he gets halfway through the turn and just stops so naturally I plow into him because I had no reason to suspect he'd slam on the brakes for no reason. Then I back up to let him move and he just refused to move so I went around. Freeway onramps are always a nightmare. Coming out of a weigh station the trucks ahead 80% of the time just stop on the onramp and don't understand the concept of merging. I really wish SCS would program it so cars already on the freeway knew to get over into the left lane near an onramp where a vehicle is entering to give them space to merge.

The AI doesn't exist, lmao. They're on rails like some 90s game or *cough* Cyberpunk 2077. Barely any intelligence involved. I agree that RL drivers are dumb and I've been dumb many times, but that is no excuse for poor traffic mapping. Reversing after accidents, getting stuck inside each other after a collision only to move forward and "collide" again, slamming brakes as soon as the speed limit changes, stopping halfway through a turn at an intersection, straight up driving into you when you take too long to get across, semi trucks going 0-60 faster than cars and stopping just as fast as cars ARE NOT things that happen in every day driving, with the exception of the messy intersections.

Whenever this issue is brought up people comment like they get t boned everyday in broad daylight, lmao. Some retardation has to be left in to make it immersive, but that doesn't excuse the many shortcomings that should be fixed in a game where you spend your entire playtime driving. Just my 2c.

I read years ago on either this forum or on ETS2, that most of these behaviours are engine related, so it cannot or exrtremely hard to fix. I also read that, there is not a single mod (again it was years ago) that alter the behaviour of the AI cars, instead just playing with the spawning rate of 'em. Whether its true or not, its very sad that the weakest part of this game by far (besides the "can-be-anywhere" town models) is the traffic. Even many years since the release.
But I agree with you, they behaviour is predictable. There is some ways to get over their dumbness. One of 'em is saving/reloading (except online jobs). I also avoid mods that increases their number. Yeah it sometimes feels like im being in a post-apoc. movie, but its spares me tremendous amount of frustration.

Why is it always the case that I can not see the described behaviour from these complaints of the AI on my vanilla profile? Seriously, the AI is way too nice and drives way too good. Sure, they make mistakes (who doesn't?) but nearly every problem I have with the AI is caused by me.
