Cruise Control
Why can't I use the cruise control below 20mph? Weight station speed limit is 15mph.

My guess would be that nobody is going to cruise at that speed anyway.

Because the lowest speed you can activate cruise controll at is the lowest speed you can set cruise controll to.

Just like in real life you can't set your cruise to be that low, at least I never could in any car/truck/suv that i owned with cruise control.

The lowest I've gotten cruise control to turn on in a vehicle is 25mph. Any lower than that, depending on gear, is idle speed. So this is a real life thing.

There is an ACC mod that allows customizing cruise settings and can be activated from 0 MPH if you like....do a search on the forums

Weigh stations are short anyways. Just go light on the gas and you're fine. No need to cruise. 🤷‍♂️

Personally, while I make every effort to maintain the legal speeds everywhere, weigh stations and entry/exit ramps are the two places I ignore the limits and just go the speed I think I can safely. If I happen to get a ticket while speeding in these two places, so be it. It's not much money and I don't creep onto any roads at super-slow speed. ;)

You are correct. Most vehicles it's somewhere between 15 and 25 MPH before cruise can be set. With the magical number for most round 20. There really is no need for it below 20. Hell most don't even use it on the freeway. Can't stand fools the will pass me or be passed by me 4/5 times in a 10 mile stretch because they aren't on cruise, and obviously can't control their foot either. And then they look at me like I have the problem...

Some cars, Like mine have what is called "Low Friction Launch" It is designed for snow/ice. You are at a stand still, turn it on, and set a speed between 1 and 19 MPH (regular cruise can be activated at 20MPH on my car) You take your foot off the brake and the car very slowly accelerates to the speed you have set. And I mean it is super slow. I can be sitting at a traffic light, set the Low Friction Launch to 5MPH. Light turns green, and I take foot off the brake. The light is changing back to red long before I'm through the intersection and at 5 MPH. So it's an utterly wasteful option for me living in Georgia, where it only snows once in a blue moon..

Just checked my car's manual, cruise control is available from 18.6 mph (30 kph) to 118 mph (190 kph) so ATS seems reasonably similar.

Cruise control on both my vehicles IRL can't be engaged below 20 mph.

G'day Ryu, Me too.
But i do think about getting off I-40 in my personal IRL truck, and setting the cruise to 10-15 mph on my dirt road[s] to the Ranch. I do use the Cruise all the time on the highway [except in wet and icy weather = too dangerous], so when I drive the 3 miles to my Ranch on the dirt roads, my right leg aches a bit.

I understand the Regulations for not allowing cruise below 30mph [or so], but it would be another reg I would love the Government to "Mind their own dang business" about.
Like driving with my lights on. I know how to understand When and When NOT to use running lights in the daytime.

Cheers for now,
Vernon

I’m not aware of any government regulations on a minimum speed for cruise control. I thought it was simply deemed not practical by the manufacturers.

I don't think the government has any control in minimum speed for cruise control. US Department of Transportation may use recommendations from those in the field, in my opinion.

Some people think the government is involved with everything. Nothing personal but some people really don't have a clue to what is going on. I see it every single day when at work.

It probably would be done by manufacturers but speeds below a certain point are usually driven in high traffic areas like citys where it would not make sense to activate cc due the high frequencys of speed adjustment/drive stop Situations (like traffic lights) and probably safety reasons.
