Emergency Vehicles Responding With Lights and Sirens
Wouldn't it be so cool if we had some emergency vehicles going on the highway with lights and sirens? Like a Highway Patrol unit floors it down on the highway with sirens and stuff, cars (including us) giving way to it. They don't need to be responding to an actual scene, but it would be cool to just see them responding code 3. Though considering it's USA, police pursuits would be great :D

Best to post this to the SCS Forums to where the devs will see it. They do read posts here, not often and reply even less.

I would like to see them come in from behind you with their lights on. failure to yield... well, that's a ticket.

There was a mod once upon a time that did this, I think it has been discontinued. You’d have emergency vehicles (mostly ambulances) spawning.

It worked okay. The ambulances would drive along with the flow of traffic at the speed limit, lights and siren on, nobody would make way for them. They also appeared far too often (I live next to a large hospital with an emergency department and don’t see this many!) After having peaceful night interstate drives disturbed by ambulances cruising along blaring their sirens, I removed it.

It would need proper implementation by SCS to do it justice.

This is in either Mexico Extremo or Viva....can't remember which one but there is a police path for it. I ran it for a while maybe a year or so ago, it was cool for an hour or two and then just became annoying

Lol well it can be a rare thing. Maybe we can adjust it with a slider, like we do at detours and random events. But still, I think it should happen, and it's not really something hard to do either. But they should go faster than normal traffic.

Shouldn't it be police vehicles mostly on highways? And it's interesting that its so common, I wonder why the author didn't adjust the probability of it. I posted this to SCS forums too, lets see if an answer pops up.

Yes, it is rare to see an ambulance on the highways, and they tend to only use the lights, the siren is only in heavy traffic.

There would not be a slider for this if it’s a mod - it would be a variable inside the mod file itself. I don’t know what became of it.

The idea would probably require a new vehicle type with a higher speed limit, and that wouldn’t work unless there was also an AI routine telling other traffic to make way for them. For these two reasons I think it’s outside the scope of a mod.

I don't think that it's that hard work, the vehicle models and lights are already there, you just need to use it as a normal vehicle that travels a bit faster than others.

about probability, for example Jazzycat has a motorcycle pack, and the pack includes a definiton file, which is for spawing probability so that we don't have too much bikes, in this case, emergency vehicles.
Don't underestimate the modders, they can really make wonders :D

Keeper and Solaris36 back in 1.36 did a emergency pack where the vehicles would run around the map with lights on with low spawn rates and cip did a sound mod not long ago for emergency vehicles, but I believe he got away from it after FMOD came around, there seems to be issues with the fade of the sirens and how in game sounds are triggered by the player.

I have two ATS mods on the workshop including a traffic density one that also tweaks the AI’s variables, so I know a few things about how it works. Each class of vehicle (and these are divided up by the type of vehicle, type of road, and time of day, including subsets for urban roads, high density roads, etc) has its own set of variables for often it will spawn in traffic.

From my understanding of how it all works, an emergency vehicle responding would likely need its own classification (to distinguish it from them driving around in traffic normally) with its own set of rules for their top speed vs the speed limits, some provision for handling intersections and red lights, and more.

The tricky part would be that all other AI traffic would need a new routine to recognize an approaching emergency vehicle and move over and/or stop so it can pass, as otherwise the poor ambulance will be right on normal traffic’s tail if it can’t change lanes to get around. This would need to take into account whether there’s even room to pull over, or what to do if there isn’t and/or the emergency vehicle gets stuck behind.

This is not something you can add in a mod, so far as I know.
