It worked okay. The ambulances would drive along with the flow of traffic at the speed limit, lights and siren on, nobody would make way for them. They also appeared far too often (I live next to a large hospital with an emergency department and don’t see this many!) After having peaceful night interstate drives disturbed by ambulances cruising along blaring their sirens, I removed it.
It would need proper implementation by SCS to do it justice.
Yes, it is rare to see an ambulance on the highways, and they tend to only use the lights, the siren is only in heavy traffic.
There would not be a slider for this if it’s a mod - it would be a variable inside the mod file itself. I don’t know what became of it.
The idea would probably require a new vehicle type with a higher speed limit, and that wouldn’t work unless there was also an AI routine telling other traffic to make way for them. For these two reasons I think it’s outside the scope of a mod.
about probability, for example Jazzycat has a motorcycle pack, and the pack includes a definiton file, which is for spawing probability so that we don't have too much bikes, in this case, emergency vehicles.
Don't underestimate the modders, they can really make wonders :D
I have two ATS mods on the workshop including a traffic density one that also tweaks the AI’s variables, so I know a few things about how it works. Each class of vehicle (and these are divided up by the type of vehicle, type of road, and time of day, including subsets for urban roads, high density roads, etc) has its own set of variables for often it will spawn in traffic.
From my understanding of how it all works, an emergency vehicle responding would likely need its own classification (to distinguish it from them driving around in traffic normally) with its own set of rules for their top speed vs the speed limits, some provision for handling intersections and red lights, and more.
The tricky part would be that all other AI traffic would need a new routine to recognize an approaching emergency vehicle and move over and/or stop so it can pass, as otherwise the poor ambulance will be right on normal traffic’s tail if it can’t change lanes to get around. This would need to take into account whether there’s even room to pull over, or what to do if there isn’t and/or the emergency vehicle gets stuck behind.
This is not something you can add in a mod, so far as I know.
