Just of Curiousity: Those who prefer the Pete 389, why?
Been rolling with the 579 since I started playing this, but tried the 389 for the first time. I know a lot of people prefer the 389, but I just don't see it. Sure it looks cool, but the visibility from the interior is... not good. Maybe you get used to it, and maybe if you adjust the seat it gets better, but it's like looking out a small rectangle. The 389 does have a kick ass mirror, but otherwise, just curious what I'm missing.

You're not missing anything. It's mostly older truck drivers and people who are attached to the idea of trucks being large, cumbersome, noisy machines.
I have to admit, they do have some aesthetic appeal externally, but I have to agree with you, driving one in game can be an unpleasant experience for someone who has never driven a truck.

If you think visibility is poor in the 389 (and I agree, it is), you should try out a Kenworth W900 with the blind mount visor.

On top of it being noisy and having poor visibility, I find my fps drops as well with the 389, so, really just not worth it.
well, my simple explanation: I started with ETS2... American trucks take a bit more effort maneuvering... The 2 classic trucks (W900 and 389) with long chassis is what i call the master class :D

i prefere the 389 because the exhausts are not as much in the way as with the W900, that´s mostly it :)

Well if you see a French-Canadian owner operator hauling logs and other grueling loads in a plastic big car, then you can call them durable. :) Many old trucks are still kicking in the rugged areas because they are just as rugged.

That being said, there's more glued-on plastic in the 389 than the 359s and 379s... basically the 389 is built to "look" like it's the old tough Petes.

EDIT: Although it is still more capable outside the van-puller realm than a big car.

1. I like the styling of the classics more.
2. The hood ornament makes a good reference point for lane control
3. I use a mod version of the 389 with a ton of customization options
4. The modern trucks are just a little too "clean". I like a truck I don't feel weird smoking a cig in.

The 579 is a beast, I literally evolved my 579 from a little baby to a booming monster. I would never downgrade to a 379.

Absolutely love my Pete 389. I've been playing this game for quite a while and I've tried most of the trucks. I like them all, especially the flat-nose ones - Freightliners, not so much the European ones as they have the speedometer set to kilometers (Strange 'cause I'm Canadian and all our vehicles are in kilometers...). But Viper's 389 just has that "je ne sais quoi" about it. I was in a band for many years and I loved to ride in the rig. Can't remember what kind it was though. Actually, can't remember too much of my musician years on the road! Oh yeah... before I forget, Viper's 389 has more options than any of the others I think. Mine started off looking rugged, now it's a little lightbulb-buzy...

This he says, as he points to the quietest truck in the game :/.

1. The protruding hood gives me a better sense of depth
2. If I role-play as a US truck driver, I want to drive a big, heavy and "evil-looking" rig (like the stalking truck in Duel)

Talking about that, I wish that SCS did 'movie-trucks' as a fun-DLC. Like the Aussie-Kennies from Mad Max classic and Beyond Thunderdome (the ones Max drives), the tractor from the NZ-movie Battletruck, Eleanor from a movie with James Fonda which I forgot the title of...
So many movies with trucks that they could add. It doesn't have to be all realism all of the time.

Some like the even older trucks, because of what they were, Trucks!
The old trucks represent a bygone era when things were less complicated, more straight forward. Trucks had their identity, their own sound. They were machines tamed by the drivers. Nowadays is, well look around. Tech, unity.

Which is fine, now I don't have to fight the truck. I have more comfort, I can do my job in silence. I don't have to check the stacks.... But still....

Some interesting points about the effect of the visible hood, I personally prefer the cleaner look that the 579 provides, but I can see why other people wouldn't. And yea, the 389 has a cool "retro" look about it, but seeing as you play the entire game from inside the cab (obviously), at least for me, you can't really appreciate it.

I've only been driving the W900 since I can remember, got to try out a new truck and see how it is compared to the older ones!

I like it because viper made a dope custom of it. I like a custom rig, and viper brought it.

Oh hell yeah. Once installed a long chassis mod and put that on. Took a digger to San Diego from SF. That was the hardest thing ever. But hell my truck was decked out. But never mix the blind mount and a long chassis, you’ll not be able to turn and see. Especially in the city. Lol
