Enough with these 30mph urban speed limits!
Anyone who has ever driven in the US knows that 25 & 30 mph speed limits only exist in residental areas and "side" streets. Not down the main roads of cities. Even in medium sized urban areas the standard is 35 mph.

The speed limits on the main roads in large cities (especially the cities represented in the 3 states of the default ATS map) are usually 40, 45 and sometimes (on rare occasions) 50 mph.

I have lived in 8 different states across this country in both urban and (very) rural areas. So I can attest from experience. Speed limits in rural area use the "bracket effect" or "steps" method. They go 55, then 45, then 35, when entering the town. And usually only go down to 25 if going past houses or city hall. Speed limits in urban areas are almost always 40 or 45 mph.

I can understand the side roads and smaller roads going around the not-so-populated areas of ATS towns staying at 30 (even though they should really make it 35). But the main roads desperately need an increase to 40 or 45 to be realistic.

C'mon SCS. Let's make it not so tedious to travel through cities please.

Okay that's my beef. Discuss....... (LOL)

I have to agree.

I personally don't mind the speed limits as the 5mph isn't that noticable a difference in game... however post map rescale it might be a much bigger issue.

I was much more disappointed in how we're forced to enter cities (such as Las Vegas or Los Angeles) when we're just "passing thru" on our way somewhere else.

Isn't that partly what the Interstate Highway System was put in place for? So that traffic could go from place to place and bypass "bottleneck spots" such as city streets? Not in ATS. Let's hope the rescale fleshes out a fully implemented Interstate highway system.

Rescale not gonna fix all those speed limit zones and 30mph on local roads is realistic and some states like Wisconsin and Oregon the speed limits are 25mph and Minnesota where I live they are trying to pass a law to allow cites to have 25 mph because of cyclists and walkers.

Roads with 4 lanes and shoulders with could be raised at 45 mph like San Diego, but Kingman streets 25 mph probadly approaite speed. People that play ATS need do slow down

16 mph in a 35 mph zone, and STILL I got a stinking speeding ticket! The cops thought it was funny to bust me for something so ridiculous. It was appalling! :steamfacepalm:

Here in portland, or most main streets are35 and under. Only a handful are higher and that is out deep.

the slowest sign ive seen in bakersfield (at least where a truck would go) is 45. usually 50 and sometimes 55 between the red lights

I believe the speed limit throughout NYC is 30. So it really isn't that bad.

@Gizmosellsbunnys, I'm not sure where you live in MN where it's normal to have 25 & 30. But I'm pretty sure you're talking about a suburb or something smaller than the Twin Cities.

Remember, I am only specifically talking about the largest street or the "main streets" (or the "main drag" as some like to call it) that go straight through the town. Not the side streets that take you to the businesses. These streets almost always have a higher limit than the rest of the town. The side streets IMHO can stay at 30. But not the largest streets with the most lanes that take you through the town.

You can use Google Maps Street View to see the speed limit signs of all these towns. It's really not that hard for SCS to do some research. The only major town that I know of from the default 3 states that has a 30mph in reality is Las Vegas.

@Trucker_Kate, you probably went through an area that has a speed limit bug. Like where it jumps up or down for only a few feet. Where was this? And do you have any map addons like Coast2Coast?

@ap70621, NYC is a whole different world. I wouldn't use NYC as a research example to set the global speed limits on all the other cities in the USA. Especially since the default map is the Southwest.

Nope, I don't have any map mods and I think it was one of those reduced speed limits for a few spots I entered. But I'm not sure though. Nonetheless the ticket was an insult. :steamsad:

They knew what you did in the last Summer - that's why they gave you a ticket.

When is that coming? I had expected the rescale to be out by now.

I always barrel through these 30 mph speed limits at 85 or 95 mph.
