Like I said before, I usually prefer to use a multiplayer mod called TruckersMP, which, aside from not allowing third-party mods, also has a feature which prevents time from staying the same when you restart it, by that I mean everybody has to have the exact same time, so in order to have a chance of not being late, I need to make sure that I haven't got a job in-progress after having the game closed for a while.
Edit: I can still reload an old save that has an older time, but it won't change the in-game time, it'll just abandon my job (without paying the fee), and also let me retry it.
This will alleviate a lot of issues.
