TechAffliction is highly recommend.

Just to let you know though there is at least a 2 month wait to get it. Could be closer to 3.

If you wanted one to get right away...check out the Simu Ride Shift knob on Amazon. It is more of an european shifter but does work well for ATS.

Without switch for engine brake: https://www.amazon.com/Gear-Shifter-Knob-Shift-Replacement-Windows/dp/B0719QG3WR

Tech Affliction is the only way to go. I have been using his shifter for a long time with no complaints.

Ordered my shifter October 16th of last year... still waiting. From what he's told me they are waiting on the Arduino boards.

You can always drop Paul an email and ask about projected build time, he's always been good about answering my questions promptly.

Actually, that button is not for engine brake but for splitting the gears without using clutch. It acts like a clutch. I also thought it is engine brake and then saw Stavros969 on youtube reviewing MAN with that kind of shifter. He used it to split gears without clutch

On topic
For ATS I would go for Tech Affliction since I heard good things about them and their shifters suit american trucks. And for ETS2 I would go for Almar. I have it and they are really great, good looking and quality made products. And you can chose from few different truck brands (scania, volvo and MAN)

For the Simu Ride...just my thoughts...

Range selector...at the front
Splitter....switch on the side
"Easy Jake"....on the top.

But in all actuality though you can assign those to whatever you wanted.

ETA: Even on the MegaShifter from TechAffliction...you don't need the clutch to split the gears. Just pop off the accellerator for a second.

thanks guys. so being in australia the expected wait time could be around 3 to 4 months by the time thney organise shipping? might it almost be easier and cheaper to make my own by finding a real shifter and getting my mate to make them work electronically as he is an electronics engineer?

You might want to look at some options on ebay.

Almars SKRS would be a good option. They are in stock and get shipped out quickly. Even though they are for ETS2, it will work for ATS.

The shipping to Australia would probably add an insignificant bit to the wait. It is a straight forward Arduino project, but by the time you gather and pay for the parts (just the bare knob used in the Tech Affliction unit runs about 30 USD) and put it together it is probably cheaper to just order one. If you want a challenge and your friend will work for a pint or two...
The Almars unit looks to be a quantum jump downward quality wise, but shipping today has it's merits...

I've found that most Australian customers order the Road King right hand drive version. The cost of the knob retail is $150 (the part number is A7318, check prices on ebay). That's unmodified.
By the time you add in the retail cost of the Arduino board, the sensors, the wire, the magnets, and the connectors your cost to build one yourself would exceed the retail cost of a Road King RHD by a pretty healthy margin.

I charge $184.95 for the finished product that will work with ATS.

All that isn't even taking into account the money wasted if you happen to ruin the knob trying to place the sensors in the base of the knob like I place them in the products I sell.

Hey there, I have a quick question, I've been hesitating to order since I don't have an appropriate base shifter yet. But do you have a recommendation as to which base unit works the best as far as realism, interaction smoothness and quality, best integration with original shaft/base, etc? I know some of the shifters are generally better in overall, but does one of them work best with your knob adapter from an integration and driving standpoint?
I'll order soon if I have a better idea of which shifter to get first.

I'll butt in to say that as a stand alone USB device the knob itself works as well with one base as another...it would work brilliantly just threaded onto a wooden dowel.
The Logitec shifter is almost toy quality plastic, would be adequate, and should be found used for very little money.
The Fanatec shifter is a quality unit and if your primary interest is hardcore racing like iRacing it might or might not be the best choice.
The Thrustmaster is maybe of equal quality to the Fanatec and is I think perfect for ATS. It sets up very easily as a 6 position shifter which is what the Eaton 13 and 18 speeds want.
The question then is money and purpose. If you can afford it, are willing to spend more for greater quality, and trucking is your use, I think that the Thrustmaster is the best choice.

I've been looking at the entire Thrustmaster suite as a moderate quality/cost choice, good to know it is a good match with the shift knob.

As some of you may know we've been running extremely behind on the build queue as of late.
I've had to fire yet another helper and train a replacement.
My helper was being paid production and decided to skip the Road Kings in the build queue and just concentrate on Mega Shifters that are faster to build.
This left me several customers that are 3 months back in the build queue, with other customers that ordered a month earlier than them already receiving their orders!

All I can do is apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. So far this week I've shipped out roughly 14 Road King shift knobs that should have shipped out weeks ago. If you're expected a Road King and ordered at the end of October or the beginning of November you can expect your knob to ship next Tuesday or Wednesday as that is when my supplier will deliver my next order of Eaton shift knobs.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

Paul
