Racing wheel not being detected *SOLVED*

Upon starting the game I tried to set up my wheel in the settings but it won't show up. It has worked in the past and I don't know why it isn't working now.
I am using the Thrustmaster Red Legend Edition (a very bad wheel)
I tried it both in ETS2 and in ATS and neither work. I have no idea why this is happening and my wheel works in other games. I have tried to restart my PC and reinstall the game.

SOLUTION: Somehow I accidentally solved this by fiddling around in steam big picture in the controller settings, not sure what actually fixed it but it worked.

It used to work in the game I didn't do anything to it it just stopped working and it works in other games as well. I have no idea why it doesn't work When I open the gamepad control panel menu it is shown up in there and when I press a button it registers in there.

SCS might not support your wheel, you might need to get a new one if it is old.

The wheel worked in the game a month ago and it stopped working in the game. I have no idea why it stopped working.

Okay zm4r I didn't use the input wizard, but I fixed it by accident. I put the details in an edit in the post.

The "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support" option under the "Controller Settings" needs to be unchecked when using a wheel with Steam games. That's very likely what you mean.

I had the same issue. I rarely use big picture mode, so finding this little check box left on, took some finding!

It might be good if Steam allowed you to see it in normal mode.

Same issue here. Thanks OP and specially FreeLunch, I was SO frustrated why my wheel suddenly didn't work. It was the Generic Gamepad Configuration Support that was checked. THANK YOU!

Posting here in 2021, this is still a problem that made my steering wheel (Logitech NASCAR Racing Wheel) undetectable in-game. I had to open the Steam client settings, go to Controls, then find the Generic option and untick it. Working great now.

Can you post a screenshot of what your General Controller Settings window looks like?

same, i was trying to get the brakes to work i fiddle with it, and now the game wont register it at all, it registers my keyboard instead
