If you were a real life trucker you would know that trucks today don't "roll coal" as you put it.
Pavel, SCS CEO, has confirmed that is it in fact part of the licensing agreements to not have black exhaust/rolling coal as the manufacturers do not want to see their trucks being environmentally unfriendly, even in a game.
I don't know if this would also include heat plumes(every truck has these) though.
