Besides that there is Coast to Coast. It's ok if you want longer runs but there are areas of absolute nothing but a road.
Other map mods add in areas to the base game and map expansions. US Expansion is called one. It is not a bad mod to be honest.
People might mention Sierra Nevada but I will never recommend that mod. Right now it is a donateware mod. The creators teased on the official SCS forums for more than a year, even did live streams. Only a few days before the expected release...they said if you want it...give us $8. There was no mention of needing a donation before this, at least on the SCS thread. They didn't have any links to their website or discord, and still don't. They simply said "search for it." Creators I think are quite rude and dishonest. The thread on the SCS forums is locked because it is a paid mod. Because they played and toyed with the community for more than a year is why I will not recommend it. Even when it is free for everyone(Probably November/December 2020), I still will not recommend it.
Can you support that statement with sales numbers?
To my knowledge most maps mods require one or more dlc's.
I can only look at what i do, but i always play with map mods, if it wasn't for map mods, specially Promods, but some others are great too, anyway if it wasn't for them i would have stopped playing the games (ats and ets2) a long time ago never buying the dlc's from SCS.
Also buy map dlc's when they are released so paying the full price, it's just a guess, but i think SCS is hit harder financially by people that wait to buy them in Steam sales, but idk how that works exactly, so it may make no difference to SCS,...
I for one am looking forward to Promods in ATS, C2C is a nice addition, but it lacks a few things Promods just does better.
And frankly, i assume that if SCS were actually losing income from mods they would do something about it, but they're not, unless they go against their policy which you can read about on their forum.
Mexico Extremo is another mod of theirs, I haven't gone there yet but its supposed to be really good but for some reason considered the most intensive one. I'm sure there is a reason for that, but since haven't made my way down there, dunno what it is.
You do however need Viva Mexico 2.5.2 (dunno why it says 2.5.3 on their site, either thats a typo or 2.5.3 was never released, in any case 2.5.2 works fine) which the quality is dubious compared to the above two. Not the worst of the maps in this list, but from what I heard its pretty buggy and floating objects and stuff. But I haven't actually gone into mexico, so that is third hand info.
Coast to Coast is an obvious one. It sacrifices quality for just adding a massive amount to the map...coast to coast...if you just want to drive there you go. Makes it the biggest map of the truck simulator series.
Canadream is an option, dunno how it is.
To see some of those maps in action, you can see this guy if you aren't aware of him. He gets a bunch of maps to make huge maps, not just for ATS but ETS2 as well. Here is his latest video for ATS specifically

I happen to live in Halifax so Canadream works out for me.
I'm waiting on Promods to get Canada done but that will take a few years too do.
Some people have a mad on for them because they made assumptions, without asking for clarification, that it was going to be free for everyone on release when nothing that team has ever previously done has been. Mexico Extremo for example has followed the exact same process, if you are an early contributor, you get it right away, if you aren't, they release a public version for free months later. I find it quite funny that people will gripe about not enough quality content and then gripe about people creating quality content wanting a small fee to use it, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
For me, $8 to have the interior of California mapped out (that SCS has ignored to this point) including all the mountain passes, Yosemite, accurate freeway modeling including the 5 lanes sections etc was a small price to pay. I would also suggest popping into their discord channel and form your own opinion about what kind of people these are behind it...some of the comments I have seen are certainly not reflective of them and the open sharing they do....have a look at the # other-work room to see how much support they give for free to the other map makers out there for example.

I agree 100% regarding the little they ask for early access, and I have found the authors to be very responsive and helpful when I have had questions. Quality stuff.
