Detour Circle from hell
I really do like the cool random detour events unless it makes it really impossible to get to your destination before the time limit. I tried to do the straight route up through redding from Sacromento. Should have been a quick and easy mission to Salom Oregon, the GPS had wanted me to get on Interstate 80 go through mouse trap to interstate 5 to Redding, but I decided it was just easier to drive up to Interestate 5 and get on there and hopefully go straight. So i got on the freeway besides I needed gas, so I got on the freeway and headed to Redding, went up a little ways, road closed detour pushing me to either san fransico or reno, so I figure that will be ok I will go to san frasico and try it from the other end. Nope detour every time I tried to get to Redding I think there was not one way to get to Redding from Sacromento. I think I backtracked at least 5 or 6 times. All entrances to Redding was blocked. I started at 7:00am with the loud and didn't get out of the starting city until 12:30pm because I was just going in complete circles mutiple times, and multiple circles. I was a day and 1/2 late thanks to that detour. Sometimes with detours there are some back roads that will let you through.

You’re a better man than me. I turn my detours off because it always seems to pop up on my last exit and extend my trip a few hundred miles

Yea detours are a great idea but there are simply not enough roads in ATS to make it work properly.

Turn down the likelyhood of that happening. Should help.

I've got the likelyhood of detours turned down to Zero !! :steamhappy:

Just in general real life driving, I do more than the average person but not near the amount truckies do.
Detours in 35 years driving, maybe a couple of minor ones, can't remember. Very rare.

ATS, almost every delivery. Turned that shonkyness off real quick.

If the detour is too long, I use the console to place my truck just beyond the detour and continue on my way.

Nothing wrong with detours, but every entrance seems to get it especially around the mouse traps, also they still don't got the USA construction stuff right, but than again they would rather use current assets. Most United States road work and Canada use the orange triangle to mark road work. Orange cone or Orange and white striped flare sticks for marking during construction. the detour trucks either have the sign in them or and are Orange and black that has a flashing arrow in that goes from line to arrow head from back of arrow to front. Also most road closures in the United states the cities use the fences, and states road closed, there is also another sign that says road closed to through traffic this likely used in residential streets and businesses and it means unless your going to your home or one of the businesses the road is closed to you unless there is no other path to your home. For example sometimes courts and cirlces come off the main road and go back to it, if you can't get home because road is closed, than the closed street should have road closed to through traffic sign.

It be nice if when we stumble upon a detour we could get some extra time added to the mission or the time limit stop. Also in the United States there is a unwritten rule that if two police cars block both sides of the road accrossways the road is considered closed.

I beg to differ with you. All road work warning signs are orange diamonds with black lettering and a speed limit sign below.

Road Closed To Thru Traffic signs are used everywhere on a 2-way road where the complete roadway is unsuitable to regular traffic. This can be from bridge or road re-construction. If your business or home is located on the portion of the road under re-construction or major repair you are allowed to proceed. Sometimes there are load limit signs posted along with the Road Closed To Thru Traffic signs. On 2-way roads, if the road is being resurfaced, which is different than reconstruction, then it is most generally shut down to one lane with flaggers at each end of the resurfacing work area.

If you need to you can drive thru most detours.

You're luckier than me then. ATS default rate may be too high, no question. But I've had plenty in real life too though and I don't even make that many long trips IRL. I've had major detours/interstates closed due to snowstorms, sandstorms, and several times due to wildfires or just plain old major traffic accidents.

Heck, the I-5 near the Oregon/CA border (Siskiyou Pass) gets closed all the time during the Winter due to weather. Still disappointed this game doesn't really even have the pass in the game, in ATS it is hardly a bump in the road.

I think ATS polls its assets of towns and cities from Satelites and google map.

Edit: It would be nice if we could create our own detours and drive trucks to help cleanup wrecks. American Truck Driving is not all about delivering cargo, but cleaning up messes. It be fun to have to tow damaged trailers to a shop to be repaired and pick up cargo off the streets.
