I have bought several because they were trucks I really wanted that no one made as a free mod but I think I am in the minority; most people gripe about spending a dime on content, official or not.

The only way to really test whether players would be willing to pay for an iconic classic truck would be to release one and see. I agree most players object to paying for mod trucks but some of us like you and I do pay for them because that is the only way to get those particular models. We aren't the only ones who are buying those mods because having free updates for those trucks the mod authors would still need to be making money selling them. Some people will gripe about paying for anything but they are in the minority and many can be seen here in the forum demanding all the state DLC's to be free etc.

An officially licenced truck would never require waiting for an update or having the problem of it being abandoned by the mod author at some time in the future when they got tired of updating it or lost interest in the game. Good businesses test a market to see whether something works, they don't just make assumptions it won't work. Whether SCS and the truck manufacturers would be willing to do this I have no idea but as I said earlier, I hope they do.
