30 FPS lock
Hi,

I'm playing on my Alienware R2 15 and can't get game to reach 60 FPS. The specs are:

i7-6820Hk
32GB of RAM
980M GPU

When I set everything to low it plays at 30 FPS when its high-medium it plays at 30 FPS so I know at low it should do 60 FPS. I've disabled the v-sync in game and in the Nvidia setting as other posts have recommended but still no help.

On my main desktop that's a lot more powerful, I had the same issue but disabling v-sync everywhere helped. I'm at a loss here.

Have you got your monitor set at 30 Hz?

Have you got the power management set to not throttle things? Laptops are a bit finicky with power.

That is why. 30 hz is 30fps. It cannot display anything over 30. Set the monitor to 60.

I don't know. You said you set it at 30, so it's wherever you did that.

Somewhere you have frame limiter set at 30 if vsync is off and it's locked to 30. It might be somewhere in the NVidia properties.

is there a preferred locked setting for fps ?

It all depends on your system and your preferences...some like to run FPS uncapped, I find anything beyond 60 causes too much screen tearing and unnecessarily loads the GPU for no real benefit. If you set your monitor refresh to 60, set the game refresh to either match it or default and set v-synch to on.

Really comes down to trial and error for what you find most enjoyable.

mine jumps from 1 to 180 or something like that my monitor settings are :

desktop resolution 2560 x 1440

active signal resolution 2560 x 1440

refresh rate ( HZ) 120 HZ

bit depth 8 bit

color format RGB

color space Standard Dynamic Range ( SDR )

What FPS do you get if you use the laptop screen at 1920x1080 ? (Assuming you have it running on an external monitor)
