Sorry couldnt resist, anyway jokes aside its probably a driver or hardware issue. Does the device work in other games?
Some things to note is that the digital range of wheels can vary, and pedals may be reversed (maximum when released) vs. zero when released for gamepad triggers. For example when my wheel is in alternate G27 mode, digital range of the wheel is 0-16383 vs. 0-65535 as a G29. So it is possible that "simple automatic" does not have data for your wheel/pedals, but it might work if you assign each function manually, working that function through its range.
