you also are comparing a 13 to a 18 which i really dont understand. the 18 i would take all day anyday for maxi and oversize hauling, no matter the distance. the 13 i would take for city driving and short highway trips (less than 100 miles) but honestly a 18 that is shifted correctly can do city driving just as well as a 13 or a 10
That is what I need. The default trucks, getting the job done. And every truck meets the needs of the job I need done. So if I need any one uniformed fleet model to get the job done. Everyone can do it, except the Mack. It is such a dog...
For each gear less, is a less step of the range. 13 gears will pull more than 10, and 18 more than both 13 and 10. This is not like in a car. This isn't more gears go faster. This is a Comercial Vehichle which has to fallow under the U.S. D.O.T.(and that is just the jist of it) In the U.S. the trucks must maintain a highway speed of at lest 45 the min up to 55 max or where posted other wise.
So if you have a junk engine on a 18 speed pulling something more than 91,000 and it is struggling to just hold 35 going state to state, is not going to work. The road hazard is useless for this kind of work.
I believe SCS is using the best engines that Mack can provide for them to use. And I believe they did the engines right. being this the case. The Mack is not all that for me, because it can not meet my demands. If you do not mind struggling it at 20mph, all power to you. I try to fallow my role play based on the way of things here, it is what i am use to..
In addition....My brother has been a driver for over 20 years. His current truck is a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia with a 450hp DD13 engine, DT12 automatic with 1750 foot pounds of torque. He has absolutely no issues pulling anything with his 53 foot reefer fully loaded.
Not sure where you get some of the things you say OP. 505 with 1850 torque gets the job done and quite well.
You have your point of view and by all means there is nothing wrong with that.
Also CAT has not made a on highway engine since 2010. They no longer produce class 8 engines. The left the market due to their Acert engines having warranty issues along with the need for costly upgrades of its exhaust treatment system to comply with tougher EPA guidelines.
I personally feel that your views are a bit extreme. Nothing with the Paccar MX engines. They are an in house engine for Kenworth/Peterbilt just the same as Detroit is for Freighliner/Western Star. International has the A26 which is based on the Man D26 engine. Volvo and Mack also use their own in house engines.
I'm a former driver myself. Drove OTR for 10 years before driving locally for 5.
BUT, in my opinion, the Mack truck in the "GAME" is not all that. It dose not meet the demands of my needs, This was all I stated.
And as for the engines of today, they are made to meet the "EPA standard", doesn't matter car or truck. because as a driver yourself, besides your brother, should already know that as fact. So yeah, majority of the engines are dis-continued or tuned down. So of course.
So really, at the end of the day, as you say, it is of "opinion". And like everyone else that has made their opinion, I had made mine. There is nothing extreme about my opinion. It was flat and simple.
It is the others that are in protest that is making into more than what I stated in the title.
And I will not let the trolling of others sway my stance in this(not pointing at you in this at all, your excluded).
ive been a fully loaded class A cdl holder for 4 years and driven super 10, 10 speed, 13 speed, and 18 speed transmissions extensively. i drive a truck now that is always loaded between 100k-102k lbs with a gvwr of 105,500. stfu. the 18 is king for OTR driving no matter the engine size. the 13 can be as good as an 18 with the right gearing, the 10 can be a serviceable transmission too. engine power and transmission gear number do not directly correlate eachother whatsoever. the 18 will be much better at pulling any weight just because of the amount of gear splits you can do. with similar powered engines, 10 and 13 will always lose to a 18 on hill pulls, every time. idk where the F youre getting these numbers from lmao a powerful engine and a 18 will always be maxed out on speed and will max out the grades. in fact an 18 would be easier on a lower power engine as the gear range is way shorter...
go sit down now mr. armchair driver.
