So I tried the Mack Anthem to see what the rave is about...
Not sure why it is all the rave. The despite the mirrior issue, which is a problem because your so far forward there is no mirrior in a FOV. That is neithter here nor there for me, I know how to adjust all that including the steering wheel.

The inside reminds me of a GMC TopKick, I feel like I am driving a small school bus, I expect to see a box on the chassi or a JerrDan flatbed. Feels Sloppy at that.
The engine is a typical short burst torque junk like the PACCAR. Not very useful for pulling anything larger than 45ft Seems 45ft and down is best suited for this.
Now I understand why it is a primary truck for cement trucks, dump trucks and buses. All the rave is really over rated. The Kenworth on a 455hp and a 13sped can out match a Mack on a 505hp on a 18spd in every way. But then again, Cummins is a work horse engine. And provide the torque where you need it.

So IF I was to use this this truck. It would be on 45ft or less trailers, and mostly locally. Can't send a kid to do a mans job... It is what it is... So it is not all that...

I like the external looks, and the dash layout. I am one of those 90% people who have never driven a real semi truck/trailer combination. Biggest truck I drove was an F350 crew cab dually with a flatbed trailer for towing vehicles I bought to flip for a profit. In this game every brand is 100% reliable, and except for the low hp of the Mack's top engine, every truck performs the same. Someone has to be the runt, in ETS2 it is Iveco. In ATS it is now the Mack. Doesn't stop me from buying it. I have one truck of each brand in my fleet, but six of my ten trucks are Macks. My hired drivers drive everything but I only drive the Mack now. I hate playing with mods, because I never know how they will react when a new update comes along. But I am considering the engine mod update so I can tow my three milk trailers with ease. :)

I do use a engine mod, but it is my personal mod that I created, I wanted to keep it close to the default settings as possible. And it dose fix the engines, so each dose have their own place in use.Since I drive stick with clutch, you notice this quick. Just with the Mack truck, if all I did was just pull 53ft or less trailers, then the truck is dependable. But I have to pull everything requiered of my role play accounts. And I run a uniformed fleet as in role play contract with dealer. So The Mack truck is not going to cut the means of my needs. Even a Volvo can out pull it.. I do not know if it is because the info of the torque value is not correct, or the motor is just not all that regardless. I have not double checked on the Mack truck engines to make sure it is correct like I did the others. But I figured at lest the 505hp could pull a heavy size cargo with out being a moving road hazard and it couldn't. Even tho it had a 18 speed, it just struggled too much to bother. And I am not confined to trailers, I do more than that. This is why I am just not seeing all the rave on it. It is very limited to what can be pulled to maintain a safe highway speed like it should.

OP you clearly havent ever driven a 505hp paccar IRL. I have driven a 550hp N14 and a 500hp Series 60 and the Paccar MX13 500/1800 pulls just as hard as the N14 and the Series 60. pulls hard from about 1300 to 1700 no lack of power in the engines sweet spot.

you also are comparing a 13 to a 18 which i really dont understand. the 18 i would take all day anyday for maxi and oversize hauling, no matter the distance. the 13 i would take for city driving and short highway trips (less than 100 miles) but honestly a 18 that is shifted correctly can do city driving just as well as a 13 or a 10

I do not use the PACCAR. CAT or Cummins. These engines are work horse engines used in the U.S. and are the most popular in real trucks on the road and construction equipment. Even in the game they are getting the job done!
That is what I need. The default trucks, getting the job done. And every truck meets the needs of the job I need done. So if I need any one uniformed fleet model to get the job done. Everyone can do it, except the Mack. It is such a dog...

Yes, I been doing that sort of things since EST2 way before ATS was even announced..

yeah, you never driven anything.... let me be fair on this.
For each gear less, is a less step of the range. 13 gears will pull more than 10, and 18 more than both 13 and 10. This is not like in a car. This isn't more gears go faster. This is a Comercial Vehichle which has to fallow under the U.S. D.O.T.(and that is just the jist of it) In the U.S. the trucks must maintain a highway speed of at lest 45 the min up to 55 max or where posted other wise.
So if you have a junk engine on a 18 speed pulling something more than 91,000 and it is struggling to just hold 35 going state to state, is not going to work. The road hazard is useless for this kind of work.
I believe SCS is using the best engines that Mack can provide for them to use. And I believe they did the engines right. being this the case. The Mack is not all that for me, because it can not meet my demands. If you do not mind struggling it at 20mph, all power to you. I try to fallow my role play based on the way of things here, it is what i am use to..

Most class 8 tractor trailers today do not use high horsepower, high torque gearing. Some O/O do but in reality the efficiency of today's engines and powertrains; that need is greatly reduced unless you are in a specific hauling field to where it is required. Your average OTR truck hauling general freight will do just fine without that.

In addition....My brother has been a driver for over 20 years. His current truck is a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia with a 450hp DD13 engine, DT12 automatic with 1750 foot pounds of torque. He has absolutely no issues pulling anything with his 53 foot reefer fully loaded.

Not sure where you get some of the things you say OP. 505 with 1850 torque gets the job done and quite well.

You have your point of view and by all means there is nothing wrong with that.

Also CAT has not made a on highway engine since 2010. They no longer produce class 8 engines. The left the market due to their Acert engines having warranty issues along with the need for costly upgrades of its exhaust treatment system to comply with tougher EPA guidelines.

I personally feel that your views are a bit extreme. Nothing with the Paccar MX engines. They are an in house engine for Kenworth/Peterbilt just the same as Detroit is for Freighliner/Western Star. International has the A26 which is based on the Man D26 engine. Volvo and Mack also use their own in house engines.

I'm a former driver myself. Drove OTR for 10 years before driving locally for 5.

I understand all that, I also your not talking as a arm chair driver, BUT a real driver based on other post I seen you on, so I have no reason not to believe you.
BUT, in my opinion, the Mack truck in the "GAME" is not all that. It dose not meet the demands of my needs, This was all I stated.
And as for the engines of today, they are made to meet the "EPA standard", doesn't matter car or truck. because as a driver yourself, besides your brother, should already know that as fact. So yeah, majority of the engines are dis-continued or tuned down. So of course.
So really, at the end of the day, as you say, it is of "opinion". And like everyone else that has made their opinion, I had made mine. There is nothing extreme about my opinion. It was flat and simple.
It is the others that are in protest that is making into more than what I stated in the title.
And I will not let the trolling of others sway my stance in this(not pointing at you in this at all, your excluded).

yeah, you never driven anything....

ive been a fully loaded class A cdl holder for 4 years and driven super 10, 10 speed, 13 speed, and 18 speed transmissions extensively. i drive a truck now that is always loaded between 100k-102k lbs with a gvwr of 105,500. stfu. the 18 is king for OTR driving no matter the engine size. the 13 can be as good as an 18 with the right gearing, the 10 can be a serviceable transmission too. engine power and transmission gear number do not directly correlate eachother whatsoever. the 18 will be much better at pulling any weight just because of the amount of gear splits you can do. with similar powered engines, 10 and 13 will always lose to a 18 on hill pulls, every time. idk where the F youre getting these numbers from lmao a powerful engine and a 18 will always be maxed out on speed and will max out the grades. in fact an 18 would be easier on a lower power engine as the gear range is way shorter...

go sit down now mr. armchair driver.
