I think it would be good occasionally to be able to sit in the passenger seat and be able to look around while the hired driver is delivering a load. Perhaps complex to implement but would be good nonetheless.

Seriously though, I personally don't see the point. As Ryu says, the game is about driving. Waking up after your co-driver has driven through your down-time doesn't change anything except for cutting down your driving time.
If you want to drive for shorter time-blocks then just take shorter jobs (you can restrict the maximum route length of available jobs in the Options->Gameplay menu if you want this as a regular feature).
It just seems like a pointless feature to me.

Willy.J.K,
Probably not so much complex to implement - all the framework and features required already exist in the game (unless you're expecting your driver to pick-up and/or dock the load as well, which might need some AI refinement) - just whether or not this would be a worthwhile enough feature to justify the development effort.
I'm not entirely disagreeing with this though, given that at some point the map could be quite expansive and then there's mods like the 1:1 scale ~350 mile stretch of the Dalton-Elliot Highway. Certainly would give the game an interesting little immersion value-add if you could hand the wheel to a co-driver and still be able to watch while you take some of your down-time for some breakfast or coffee or something during a 7+ hour real-time trip :).
You pull over the rig, mark up the log book, say "'Morning Sam, 'morning George", switch drivers and be on your way.
I assume it would not be like Mad Max where you switch drivers while the vehicle is redlined and someone is on the hood spitting fuel into the turbo intake, but that might be fun too.
A while back someone, maybe me, mentioned the idea of MP with a human co-driver. That would be chill, just two geeks with TrackIR's and Eaton Fuller shifters whiling away the miles (or kilometers). The co-driver could use their vantage to help guide the driver into tough parking, which would be so cool it's sick. Anyway, it's something you can do in FSX.
Here you're not making a lot of sense - you're suggesting that the game should allow us to do something which... is more or less the very thing we *DO* do.
Our in-game avatar is the one who is sleeping, we the player just waits a brief moment for time to fast-forward through our avatar's rest period and then we go right on driving. ???

[edit]
I get that you're saying the game wouldn't advance time and that we'd essentially be driving our co-driver's shift but this changes nothing in game-play terms.
Hey Whatsamata4u?
I think you opened a BIG can of wriggly worms, and out popped Fury6 & Twelve field!! 😁😁😁😁
I had to step outside an see if it was a full moon! 😊😊😊😊
It's been one of those days, I tell ya!
Ha ha ha ha ha Thanks guys I needed that!

And here I was thinking he was talking about his reflection in the mirror. : )
Edit: If or when this game expands to include all of the US it would make it more realistic for cross country hauls in my opinion. Just saying.
