Peterbuilt vs Kenworth Fuel Use Data
Hey guys,

I am a noob with this series but am really enjoying it. I was using a mostly fully upraded Kenworth 680 and then to see the differnce was running a Peterbilt 579 (I think), this is my current truck. One of my employees is running the other one.

Anyway, was using the same engine/transmission and chassis style with both rigs and found that I was running at about 6.5mpg or higher in the Kenworth but cant for the life of me get above 5.7mpg in the Pete. Now I am running the same auto transmission with both and just roughly 10k worth of road miles in deliveries. I know that loads would be a factor but I thought since this was run out over that many miles that they should be pretty well ballanced.

Is this just my driving and a coincidence or has anyone else noticed something similar.

Cheers

Hi,

fuel consumption depends on so many things as you will know. I usually reset the display before every trip just to watch the consumption. Do I get you right, that you use automatic transmission. You can save a lot of fuel, manually shifting up on the highway going @ 55 mph in California f.e. The automatic usually stays at about 1400 rpm in D12. After shifting to D13 you are travelling @ about 1100 rpm.

Loads are a factor, of course (depending on the engine size), but the main thing saving fuel is trying to travel long distances at the same speed using cruise control. 55 is excellent for this purpose, but 75 is more fun... ;) The Peterbilt 579 has a gauge for the momentary consumption. There you will see how the consumption goes up picking up speed. Each time you have to accelerate fuel consumption rises drastically.

I am not quite sure, but I think in the game bigger engines consume less. (btw. did you check realitic consumption in the options?) Not that realistic, is it? ;)

I have a profile for every truck in the game. I cannot share your opinion that the Kenworth consumes much less than the Peterbilt (they use the same engines afaik, so there shouldn't be that much differences), but it is difficult to compare. I once had a trip with the T680 all through California up to Phoenix and ended up with 7.9 mpg (500 hp engine and a medium sized haul). I haven't had that with the 579, so maybe...

I hope this wasn't too confusing! :) Have fun! :)

I did not drive Kenworth 680, but my fuel consuption for Peterbuilt 579 was above 7 mpg average after I drove over 40k on it using manual 18-speed

I was driving W900 until yesterday (gave it to hired driver and doing Quick Jobs now to get remaining 10-15K for Peterbuilt 389), covered about 11K and ended up with average 7.4 mpg using mostly 6-speed manual. This number could be higher, but I prefer shorter deliveries so I drive in cities and urban areas at least 30% of the time

The Fuel stats on the game are off a peterbilt 579 traveling say 65 "will give you around 5 mpg 6mpg tops depending on how heavy the load is. The Kenworth T680 will give you about the same mpg. Kenworth w900 and the Peterbilt 389 will give you anywhere from 2mpg and light loads at the most 4.5 mpg.
Theres alot of factors that go into it. but knowing frist hand you wont get anywhere close to being able to get no 8mpg ever, maybe if the wind is at your back the whole time..
Driving in cities just cut that mpg to half

I just finished Quick Job on 389 550HP with 13-speed manual, Tucson to Ukiah (over 900 miles mostly on interstates), finished with 8.3mpg

Could there be difference between imperial and US gallons?

After more than 80,000 miles with my Pete I reached 7.6 mpg with a 500 hp Paccar and a manual 18 speed ef gearbox...
Usually hauling 53s mostly close to the 80,000 lbs limit...
I guess that automatic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are worse in the game, as they rev higher...

Hey guys,

All great stuff... I will continue to enjoy and tinker with my driving. After all thats what its all about. If I can configure my controller better I might switch to manual as I would prefer the control over the drive train but at this point I am finding that when I try a different key binding that the controller config screen just wont let it change.... anyway...

Cheers

Haven't really paid much to MPG, but last time I did it was about 6.5 mpg and that was in a 579. Like stated before, it really all depends on certain factors, mainly how fast you run and your trailer weight. Plus what trailer you have to. Those skirts under the trailers work in-game far as helping with MPG, I think

How do you get these figures?
In the W900 sleeper with the top C15 engine and a 13spd 3.08 axle ratio, I get around 6.5-7mpg in the beta 1.5 patch. The fuel consumption has gone up quite a bit for sure.
The 3.08 ratio allows cruising at 55/65mph at ~1250rpm.

I was averaging 7.8mpg in my 579 daycab before in my main profile. This has dropped by at least 0.5mpg now.

Depends on what transmission setup you use. See my post above. Thats with an auto.
I do have to babysit it a bit though as it wont upshift soon enough on flat ground. So I force it up to 13th and preemptively downshift before a hill. This also fix the issue with dropping to low and shifting down two gears when its not needed.
