My new G920 is VERY hard to turn
Does anyone know how to decreasse the steering stiffness in a Logitech G920? I have tried tweeking just about EVERY (and I mean 'every') steering setting in the Logitech gaming software and ATS options. I have turned the settings up, down and off but nothing changes. No matter what I do the steering wheel is extremely hard to turn. After a long haull, especially runs with a lot of city driving, my forearms feel like I've been to the gym. It's exhausting and really detracts from the enjoyment of ATS. I have searched Google for a solution but nothing I've found helps. Making hard turns requires two hands to wrestle the wheel to move and if I let go of the steering wheel it springs back to center so quickly that I am afraid if a finger gets in the wheel, I'm going to loose it. It's kind of discouraging. Help!

That is odd. For ATS and ETS2 leave the Logitech software set as default. In game set your sensitivity to 100% (full right) and your non-linearity 0% (full left).

In game set your sliders for FFB at about 75% and perhaps reduce these if your wheel is hard to turn. Make sure you set the engine to minimum, collisions to minimum and terrain to around 10%.

Also, it might be a good idea to re-install the Logitech software. Make sure your wheel is plugged into a USB2 Port directly on your computer and not a USB3 port or a shared USB Hub.

The ingame options you're going to want to adjust for steering stiffness are:

Options->Controls->force feedback gain Options->Controls->force feedback stiffness Options->Controls->force feedback centering Options->Controls->force feedback dampers

Depending on what you mean by 'very hard to turn'.

If it's generally always hard to turn even when you're standing still (ie, feels 'stiff'), try the 'stiffness' adjustment.

If it's hard to turn while moving forward but okay when standing still, try the 'centering' adjustment. This affects the truck's castor steering behaviour.

If it's hard to turn the wheel quickly, but okay when turning the wheel slowly, try the dampers adjustment.

The engine adjustment just varies the strength of vibrations on the wheel with engine RPM, collisions vary the strength of 'shock' vibrations on the wheel when colliding with other vehicles and map objects, terrain varies the strength of 'bump' and general vibrations on the wheel due to the map ground layout & condition.

you can get the force feedback plugin from scs forums

It's working! I changed the USB port, un-installed and re-installed the Logitech software, then used the ATS Controls wizard to configure ATS. I had to re-map the pedals as ATS set brake to clutch, chutch to accelerator, and acelator to brake, but once I fixed the wizard's mistake, the wheel started working. I am not sure which one of those fixes did the trick, but something made it start working properly. ATS is now a pleasure to use again.

Thank to all who responded for your help!l

G'day Karl,
I know exactly what you are talking about mate.

In the Logitech Gaming Software (for my G920), I haven't chosen "Default" as suggested, but instead, have started off clicking on the Profile of the game which I'm using, but haven't made any stettings except the wheel settings.

I guess that you could do the same in "Default" but I don't like messing with anything "Default." That's always my insurance policy in cascasse I bugger something up.

What I did, in that box at the top of the 'wheel screen' was this.
Double click it to open it.
I set the ' lock to lock' as 900 degrees.
Just below that, I checked (ticked) the box.
Then I set the centering spring as low as 20% (I've tried up to 40% but that's a hand full.

DON'T FORGET TO RIGHT CLICK THE PROFILE ICON AND CLICK "SAVE."

Now, in my game/simulator, I lighten the the steering sensitivity to my liking, about one third or less from the left, and the 'non-linearity' to about an inch/4 cm from the left end.
On the wheel settings I have the steering set with (zero) on the slider. I also have the 'centered' set.

That, in ETS2, gives me a nice 'power steering feel' with my Volvo FH 16-750.
I'm still fiddling with the ATS settings, as I don't own my own truck yet.
I do think that ATS seems a tad heavier, but when I buy my 1st truck, we will see... 😕

That's a day or so away (providing the sun shines on my solar panels - we're off the grid out here in Arizona.

Let me know how you fare Karl?
I think I've covered everything. 😰😨😱

Oh Kar!. I just thought of one more setting.

Force Feedback: Set some of those settings way down a tad too. 10% is where I have these three.
Collision/Engine/Terrain, and then adjust the others to your desire.
I've already told you about sensitivity & nonlinearity.
Good luck.

Cheers.

I have the G920 Xren,
It's specifically designed for PC & XBox.

The G29 is specifically designed for PlayStation's BUT will work with PC.

For me, I'm really happy with the G920, plus I bought the Shifter. That's a MUST for either of these wheels when using ATS & ETS2.

I've programmed (in game) the wheels buttons for all those functions that you use while in motion, or about to move out!
That way I don't have to look down at my keyboard.

Starter
Cruise
Resume cruise
Wipers
High Beam
Park Brake

Range Switch
Splitter Switch

Air horn 😀
Advisor
Map
Truck & Trailer Status
Job page

Love my G920 😄

Just for everone's edification... The problem in ATS is that the settings don't "set" until you change them. What I was doing was going into the ATS settings and loooking at my FFB settings. They all looked fine but the wheel was not responding the way the settings were set. I bumped the settings up and then back to where they were and everything started working. It seems like there is a little 'bug' in the ATS FFB settings where they don't work properly until you actually move the sliders a bit. The bottom line is that everything is working and I couldn't be happier. Now I am just waiting for my Eaton-Fuller 18 speed range/splitter shfter knob (SKRS) to arrive from CSIO. It looks like an awesome bit of kit - https://csio.tech/product/skrs-official-v01.

I am glad it is working well now. The bug you mention must be for the Logitech wheels because I often create new profiles and have never had any problem with my T500RS Thrustmaster wheel.

I've never seen this issue in literally dozens of profiles with my G27. I'd suggest it doesn't appear to be so simple :)

Be aware that most if not every big Windows update, you'll likely end up re-installing the Logitech software. Fortunately, that's painless. Or you can manually install the driver, which bypasses the software, and that seems to make the settings "stick" longer. You can find instructions on how to do this in Youtube.

The FFB in ATS is nice, but something like Automobilista has really great FFB (although you're going to run into a bug with wheel rotation in that game). It's also good in Project Cars and Asssetto Corsa, among others.
