Need Help on Choosing First Truck Realistically
Ok, this is gonna probably sound weird as heck, but the way how I would like to choose my first truck in ATS is to actually go on Truckpaper.com, and look at used trucks as if I'm actually buying one of them. Probably the only player who does this :P

Anyways, I have my list narrowed down to 2 trucks: A Freightliner Classic XL for $24,500, or a Peterbilt 377 for $29,900.

Both trucks run fine in ATS (tried both on a test account) except the Classic has a slight FPS drop. Funny thing, in ATS, the 377 is more expensive then the Classic at the dealerships just like the 2 trucks I found.

Both trucks have the Cummins N14 with a 13 speed, but the Classic has a 500hp while the 377 has a 460hp.

The 377 has 600,000 miles, while the Classic has 1,000,000. Both trucks are still in fantastic condition.

In ATS, the Classic has TONS of customization options while the 377 only has basic exterior options.

Both trucks are from Idaho (in ATS, I'll just drive the truck from Idaho to my Reno HQ via C2C map.)

The Classic has a longer wheelbase while the 377 has a smaller wheelbase, and the 377 is smaller and narrower itself, making the 377 an easier truck to drive

The Frame-rates in the Classic average 15 FPS while the 377 averages 20 FPS (I'm running on a Gateway office PC)

The 377 is from 1998 while the Classic is from 1999

The Classic has a high-rise sleeper while the 377 has a mid-roof sleeper with an aerodynamic piece added to the roof to streamline.

I like both trucks, and can't decide. From a realistic view, I feel the 377 would be a better starting truck.

I know probably no one buys trucks this way (I play way too realistic :P) in ATS, and probably no one can have much advise, but which truck seems a better buy to you guys???

What do you look for when you buy any vehicle? In the case of the game you obviously don't have to worry about buying a lemon.

So really which truck do you like the most? I favour the Pete for looks personally, but I guess you have to take into account how much you like customising trucks. If it's not that big a deal then it really just comes down to visual appeal and money.

If you want to imagine that the trucks have wear and tear based on milage and age, then I would certainly favour the 377.

Yes in ATS you obviously don't need to worry about that (except tire wear) but I was thinking the 377 would be better because of it's low mileage, and would'nt have as many issues as the Classic which has 1mil miles, which could mean more mechanical issues. I've also heard that Freightliner's cabs start rattling in some places when they get high mileage (obviously not in ATS, but again, I'm way to realistic). I don't really like tricking out semis with all the lights and chrome, what I mean is that the Classic has accessery options inside the cab, and has much more parts options then the 377. But I'm fine with the 377 as a starter truck, it's just the Classic looks great as well, even with 1mil miles.

I am glad to see I am not alone in trying for complete immersion. Have fun! I sure do. I am from a family of drivers and we are all off the road now retired.

I didn't think anyone else played the way I do. lol. All I'm missing is a physical steering wheel, pedals and a shifter.

I also have a couple of truckers in my family as well. I don't really intend to go into trucking (would like to go into aviation), but I don't mind being a trucker if I don't make it into the airlines. I guess I like to travel alot lol. I've had some truckers in my family as well. Most popular truck in our family of truckers easily was the International 9200 / 9400 Eagle. Other trucks owned in our family have been the KW T600, Pete 379, Freightliner Century, and I believe way back in the 90's one of my family members might have had a Freightliner FLD, but I'm not sure. If there was a good 9200, 9400, or even a 9900 for ATS that runs well on my PC I would be looking at Internationals instead.
