Best Controller?
I know alot of people seem to enjoy the steering wheel, but I just cant justify it as I dont play any other driving games. I do have an xbox controller I've been using, and that works alright, but just wondering what your favoriate wayto play is? Plain ole keyboard and mouse?

I use the Steam controller. The right touch pad is used to look around, the left pad is assigned to a wheel of various functions. I have it set up so I can use motion controls for steering (although I can also use the analog stick). Actually works pretty well for something that's not a steering wheel, and Steam's ability to adjust and remap everything is great.

I use a PS4 controller because it has two extra buttons over a Xbox One controller.

The game was designed to play using a steering wheel but supports all sorts of controllers. A 900 degree rotation wheel is best but the next best is a controller like the Xbox one controller and last is the keyboard and mouse.

Personally, I use a wheel which works superbly but before using a wheel I used an Xbox one controller which was fine and before that when I first played ETS2 I used a keyboard and mouse which was absolutely disastrous and I immediately bought the Xbox one controller. I know some people play using the keyboard and mouse and they are very happy playing that way but for me I hated it and had so many accidents using it and if it wasn't for the fact I needed them for my computer I would have thrown them in the bin.

Whatever players are happy using and can afford is the best controller to use.

The touchpad has a left click on the touchpad, right click on the touchpad, and centreclick on the touchpad, along with gestures on the touchpad. So actually more like 10+ buttons if you configure it.

I use Keyboard and mouse and I am better at Keyboard and mouse then a controller

I am not surprised, I have heard many people say the same thing. It amazes me really because I just had so much trouble using them to play the game so I take my hat off to anyone who can play the game using the keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, same here. I came back to the game after a bit of a break, and couldn't remember my play preference. Oh boy it did not take long to realize I was NOT a keyboard and mouse person in this case. I'm muuch better on controller. Other than the fact that I need to clean my controller cause my LT keeps sticking

I do something similar with a radial menu on my Steam controller. Turns out there are a lot of things (lights, parking brake, windshield wipers, differential lock etc) that you want to use in the game. I suppose not all of them are strictly necesarry if you set up the game differently, but I kinda like having things like weather on.

Even if you don't have a Steam controller, I'd actually look into taking the time to customize your controller in Steam. Steam's controller customization is very flexible and you can do a lot with it.

The one thing I'd look for in a controller if you're not going to get a wheel is motion controls: Being able to tilt the controller to steer is a very big improvement over just using the analog stick. I've basically set up my controller so that I can use the motion controls for highway driving (fine control) and the stick in cities (making sharp turns).

And might as well, shameless plug . . .

Here's the actual controller setup I use:
steam://controllerconfig/270880/1502975360

. . . and here's a guide for the setup:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1259369262

. . . and yeah maybe I do go overboard on fine tuning my setup for the game, but hey it's a game I play quite a bit.

I used to use an Xbox-One controller now I use a Logitech g29 wheel and pedals Plus got the shifter but can't really use it because the table I use has metal underneath it and it gets in the way of mounting it I need like a little side table or an end table in order to use it. The Xbox-one controller worked very well I just map the buttons to the functions that I needed. But the Wheel is so much better. I can also understand why some users can't justify using the wheel because of the money required to purchase one. My brother in law used a keyboard and mouse to play both ATS and ETS since he was using his gaming laptop while sitting in his chair.

i have powerA wired controller for xbox one and its a pathetic pos for ATS... steer clear unless you wanna just buy it in your next fire pit. if you like installing workshop items you will constantly have to go into settings and redo all your keybinding even if you remove a workshop mod. its $20 on amazon with prime, save yourself and avoid it... has good reviews but for ATS you will end up burning it or bashing it on floor until its in 1000 pieces.

PS4 controller gives my the option to do that but so far i haven't tried it, seems to me it would casue trouble

I'm currently using a 180 degree wheel, would not recommend for this or ETS2 honestly. Picked it and a Saitek Cyborg Joystick up at a thrift store for a few bucks. Using the joystick as an automatic with camera controls and such programmed to it beside the wheel. Upgrading to a Driving Force Pro wheel I found on ebay for cheap once it arrives.

I use a ps2/3 style controller when not using the wheel
