Engine brake / toggle
I use an easy jake switch. It work when I assign it to the “engine brake” setting one position is on and the other position off. I can’t adjust the engine brake strength when assigned to this “engine brake” setting which is what I’d like to do.

The “engine brake toggle” I can adjust the strength but I have to hit my easy jake button once to turn on then again to reset the button for when I want to turn it off.

Can someone help me figure out how I can use the “engine brake” setting with my easy jake switch AND be able to adjust the strength? Thank you in advance.

I think that they have to be seperate key calls, the Easy Jake will just give you the on/off of it I'm afraid.

It's either: on/off or toggle with strength. You can't change strength using the basic on/off method. What you're after is not possible.

Set "engine brake Increase" and "engine brake decrease" to a triple state button. So you can turn engine brake on. state up engine brake engaged and rise. state down engine brake decrease until off. middle position off

I have my buttons mapped. It’s unfortunate that scs could drop the ball on such an iconic part of American trucks. @ mosguy I think you are right. @ kraul59 this would only be 2 stage with engine brake off being center position. I want 3 stage control like a real truck lol. Maybe I’m misunderstanding but again I want to toggle with easy jake and control strength/ stages with another switch/ switches.

It'd work fine, have a look at the 3-way switch on a Thrustmaster TX Leather - it acts as a push-button when you press it, and a self-centering two-way momentary toggle when you turn it. Push to activate/deactivate engine brake, twist-and-release clockwise to increase braking strength, twist-and-release anti-clockwise to decrease.

????

As I said above, the EJ is just an on off switch for your engine brake. On/Off IS just like a real truck. And just like a real truck you have to select brake strength with a seperate switch. I don't think anybody dropped the ball. I suppose Paul or whoever programed the Arduino in your knob could have set it up for a multi position switch, but I don't think that would be realistic.

Correct but having to hit the button twice because I have to use the engine brake toggle setting isn’t realistic. For the switch to work correctly it takes away from the ability to control braking strength. I will most likely do as you said with a multi position switch and just use my ez switch for something else

I use an easy jake switch. It work when I assign it to the “engine brake” setting one position is on and the other position off. I can’t adjust the engine brake strength when assigned to this “engine brake” setting which is what I’d like to do. [...]

That's right, for some unfathomable reason the engine brake hold-down function just applies the brake at full strength and can't be adjusted. Personally I'd be inclined to consider this a bug and would suggest reporting it as such on the SCS website.

If your EJ switch is a dual throw rather than single throw then you can set both throws to the toggle function (one as the Primary, the other as the Secondary) which would *almost* work right except it will get out of sync at times (in which case you can pause the game, flip the switch over and unpause). I suspect, however, the switch is single throw only, in which case there's really nothing much you can do with it if you want a selectable brake.

I never thought of assigning it to secondary also. You are correct it’s a single. I’ll continue to hit my ez switch twice. On then reset off then reset bc I love being able to control the brake stages. Thank you everyone for your input and help.

Another obvious option, if you're inclined, would be to source a momentary action (single throw and likely single pole) rocker (or even push-button, for that matter) switch to replace the existing bi-stable rocker on the EJ. Might be a little tough finding an exact aesthetic match though, as I'm guessing the EJ may possibly not be using off-the-shelf switch assemblies.

While it certainly is unfortunate, it's also quite understandable. After all, they can't just get every little detail right, right off the bat. If people never, or rarely, bring details like this to their attention they're just going to continually get missed.
