Driving Music
What kind of music do you guys like to listen to while driving? Or what music gets you in the mood to play ATS? Personally, I like to listen to country music, especially with a truckers theme to it. Here are some trucker themed music that I enjoy and you may too:

-Eastbound and Down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFEFUsEvrD4

-Highway Junkie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSPMiGPUJWY

-Prisoner of the Highway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw8B1zqOIHM

The theme song from the movie Convoy.

"We crashed the gate, doing 98, I said, let them truckers roll, 10-4!"

And then there's a lot of other music I listen to. Feel free to come with suggestions, though I got a couple of genres I despise. :longhaul:

Black/Death metal makes everything worse in my opinion. Worse in like: I'm going berserk smashing everything! Yeah, it makes me super angry. Most hip hop music is not for me.

I second C.W. McCall (singer of “Convoy”) - the rest of his music is just as good.

Being southern, I feel obligated to also suggest Lynyrd Skynyrd, primarily their pre-crash (1977) music and their 80s and 90s compilation albums, which included some previously unreleased material from that era.

If we're necro'ing threads, I'm necro'ing my opinion: if it isn't Sinatra, it's crap. Elvis is the exception. However, for trucking, Linda Ronstadt will do - especially "Willin'".

Bluegrass or synthwave music. Two completely different genres but depends on how I'm feeling. Usually I like bluegrass for ats and synthwave on ets2

Cool thread, and insightful. They say that eyes are windows to the soul, but a person's tastes in art, such as music, can speak volumes about who they are, and you might say I'm an old soul that's been exposed to a lot, and aged beyond my years. Being the real deal (I drove OTR for nearly 5 years), I was running 10-11 hrs per day, 6-7 days a week, 8 weeks at a time. So obviously, I had to have a LOT of music at my disposal (right about 156 hrs worth on the iPod alone) to be sure I didn't hear the same song much. And yes, I sang along – constantly – I have a thing for karaoke, and used to write my own songs.

I usually had a 12V DC - 120V AC inverter in most trucks, and I was pretty handy with 12V stereo equipment, so I mounted an old Alpine with iPod control in an old Cobra 29 CB case from a fried radio (tight, but fits), with rear preamps patched out to a set of RCAs that fed a 600-watt Onkyo home theater system (complete with powered sub), and the fronts feeding an 1/8-in aux plug for patching into the truck's factory stereo, to round out the mids / highs some. That thing ROCKED, and never let me down through enough trucks I lost count. The Alpine had outlived 8 taxicabs before I started driving trucks. The iPod died around the time I joined the last carrier I drove for, but I still have everything else, incredibly. But I digress.

Anyway, with so much music, I can't possibly list all that here. And be warned, this is a long list, and I'll probably fit in here about like a turd in a punch bowl, but check it out, you may find some stuff here you didn't know you'd like. Here are just a few of my faves kept in my ATS music folder:

Blues, some of the best road music out there. From pure acoustic to show band stuff. Something for every time of day or night, every road, every city and every mood.

I'm a Cockney, and proud to say, my dad raised me, listening to people like Ramblin Jack Elliot, Jose Feliciano, Lightning Hopkins, Tony Joe White, Earl Scruggs. As I have got older, Stevie Ray Vaughn, AC-DC. Genesis, Rush. Diverse? Bob Marley, Yellowman, George Benson, Dianna Reeves. Gregory porter. Kandace Springs, David Sanborn. To name but a few. So my listening is pretty diverse and I enjoy all of it.

If your nostalgic for true truck driving themed songs there are a bunch of late 1950's / early 1960's C & W / Honky Tonk style truck driving songs that really can set the mood for old time trucking. Search YT for Dave Dudley, Red Sovine, ♥♥♥♥ Curless, Junior Brown, Red Simpson, and you'll find plenty of links from there. You can find a YT converter online and convert the songs to MP3 format, put them in a file folder to use in game and then be grinning ear to ear while you shift those gears.

I discovered a ton of mystery books I'd never heard of that way. Audiobooks on CD are big sellers in truck stops.

I like a mix depending on what I'm feeling like. Jason and the Scorchers is a favorite as are The Kentucky Headhunters. I have a bunch of radio stations as well including some local. I also have a comedy station. Pretty hard to keep it between the lines when your busting a spleen laughing.

You all listed some great songs. Thank You All very much for listing. Remember Bill Mack's All Night Open Road Country Radio WBAP 820 AM. RIP.. Many of the songs listed he played. Weather and traffic reports. Truckers would call in and make comments our give road advisory reports as well. Helped you stay awake and entertained on those long nights. Not a lot of traffic back then. I-5, I-10, I-15, I-40 and I 70 wasnt completed. edit: A lot of truck hands ran the Feather River Canyon in the song Roll Truck Roll by Red Simpson.

Have A Great Day
