Splitting Sequential Gears
G'day peeps.

I'm just mucking around on ATS with an XBone controller and the sequential transmission. However, my main gripe at the moment is the fact I have to go through each individual gear, 1 through to 18, with 18 button presses.

Now, I was wondering if there be a way to set it, so I shift sequentially from LL to 8L with 9 pushes up on the D-pad, and use left D-pad and right D-pad to switch from Low and High range.

I know some people will say 'get a H-shifter', and others will tell me to deal with it, but I wanted to know if this is indeed possible.

Maybe the following works: Go to Controls menu, then
  1. Change Transmission to "H-Shifter"
  2. Set Shifter layout to "Splitter"
  3. Set keys/buttons for Shifter Toggle: 1 and/or Shifter Toggle: 2 (play around with this)
  4. Experiment with checking and unchecking Shifter Toggles use Switch Mode

I cannot guarantee this will work, though, as I got comfortable with double tapping to shift through 18 gears (starting at 3/1L or 5/2L, depending on the situation). Good luck!

Nevermind, I just tried it and it does not work - I cannot even assign a key or button to Shifter Toggle, let alone check the Shifter Toggles use Switch Mode box. Nevertheless, I'll let this as it is, maybe you find it a point to begin with.

When I was using the keyboard, I would double tap the upshift button to skip gears when a split wasn't needed.

You could try assigning keys manually by editing the controls.sii file in your profile folder. May want to make a back up of it first though.

Good idea. Would assigning shifter positions possibily do the trick?

Switch Mode is *not* for use with momentary-action pushbuttons like on keyboards and game-pads. It's for, surprising enough, bi-stable switches (toggle/rocker etc). Unless, you like to be holding your button(s) down the whole time you want a mode to be active, of course.

Yeah this is why I stuck with a 10 speed in this game. It would be a nice option. Right now there is only shift to neutral.

Thanks for clarification! I had something in mind that this option had something to do with this.
