Any difference between ATS and ETS2?
I'm considering buying ATS, but I already own ETS2. Other than the American setting/trucks, are there any major differences between the two games?

well, the scenery comes to mind. With ETS mostly covering the milder as well as north-eastern climates, you are in for a different color-pallette when comparing to the south-western states that ATS starts out with. And a little bit of a different animal when it comes to npc-traffic and how it flows. Heavy cargo trailers will probably see you curse yourself when e.g. you miss the optimal angle when parking at your final destination for the first time. American rules of the road brings some noticeable changes as well like turn-right-on-red and those special intersections where everyone gets to move out in order of arrival etc.
But mostly you might like the relaxing look into the vast open scenery with lots of nicely modeled backgrounds - which is what I enjoy greatly when I fire it up every other week.

The setting and trucks are the only differences. They are the exact same game otherwise. That being said, it's worth having both so you can have a little more variety.

It is a much more relaxing game because there are no toll ways which require you to stop. I love ETS2 and played it for a long time before ATS was released but now when I play ETS2 that is the biggest difference and because I live in Australia the environment in ATS is far more familiar. We have both the American and European trucks in Australia and although I like driving the European trucks in ETS2 there is not the same trucker feel as there is driving the Peterbilt 389 or W900 on the wide open roads of ATS. People who say the games are exactly the same are correct as the game play is the same but the feel of the games is in no way the same to me. Even with the fact ETS2 has far more content and more trucks ATS is a standout winner in the comparison of the games in my opinion.

Get the demo if you are unsure and try it for yourself!

I have both and agree with margalus about the variety. Sometimes I just wanna drive the big american beasts and sometimes not. I enjoy them both a lot.

Gonna be honest, I can't really get into ETS2 again. ATS is just so much better in my opinion. Wider roads, the map will be bigger in a few short years, the roads are far wider, and the scenery is better and more detailed in my opinion.

Agree with this, but this is just my opinion.

Go for it! :steamhappy:
You're gonna curse a lot when you have to reverse and park your trailer. These long-nosed beasts are not easy to reverse, but they got ye good old truckin' feel to them. From a European point of view I absolutely love the U.S speed limits for trucks, lol. 130 km/h in Nevada on the interstate without getting a speeding ticket? Yes, sir! :honkhonk:

No matter which brand of truck, modded or not, I always choose a long-nosed to get the American truckin' feel. But the fact there almost next to none of these idiot tollbooths makes it for an enjoyable ride. Watch out for the AI though and especially the bogus intersection at Tonopah. :longhaul:

Lol, I drive trucks in the U.S. IRL, so it'll probably feel more natural to ditch the cabovers.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I think I'll try it out!
