How do you speed back up fast after stopping fully?
Whenever I stop at a red light and then have to continue driving it takes me a while to get any speed, but I always see videos of people instantly starting to drive fast, how do they do it exactly? Like how should I switch my gears to quickly start getting speed? Thanks

I have a feeling those people are using modded engines.

there are several factors, weight of the trailer you are hauling, the horsepower and torque of your engine and your transmission and settings ie automatic or sequential. if you are using an automatic transmission it takes longer to get up to speed since it starts in first gear and usually doesnt skip gears, when using any of the manual transmissions ie sequential you can shift at a higher rpm which allows you to skip gears and start in a higher gear. the horsepower and torque help get the wheels moving, also the number of gears you are using does, IMO, matter for acceleration. i have noticed that using the 18 speed transmission will accelerate faster then the 10 or 13 speed.

Well I'm using manual but like if I'm at gear 5 for example and I stop, my truck wont be able to get up to the speed of gear 5, I'll have to lower the gear and then rise it again, but people do it a lot faster and I'm not sure how.

Just a question but have you used a manual trans irl or seen someone irl? With a manual once you come to a stop you must shift down through your gears till you get to 1st and then go through the gears to get you going. You might be able to start in 2nd or 3rd if you load is light enough or no load at all. Idk maybe I misunderstood your response? Maybe an automatic might be a better choice?

What horse power and torque is your enegine

It's a truck simulator. Trucks don't do 0-60 in 4 seconds.

with any load 40000 lb or less i can with a fully upgraded t680 start in 4th gear using a manual transmission. you do not need to start in 1st gear. the heavy cargo and special transport i can start out in second gear.

and unlike a car which at most has 6 gears a truck with an 18 speed transmission doesnt need all the gears to get up to speed.

Unhook your trailer and bobtail.

Seriously. If you saw videos of somebody driving big trucks with trailers accelerating quickly that would mean that they had some sort of mod that drastically increased hp and torque to ridiculously unrealistic levels. Trucks don't accelerate that way, they are not sports cars. It can take a minute for a truck to get up to speed compared to seconds in a sports car.

I know not everyone has had experience IRL of truck driving, but be realistic, how much power would you need to accelerate 35 - 60 tons of truck and trailer to 60 in a few seconds? Why this obsession with speed in a TRUCK? Play Assetto Corsa or F1 2019 for speed, not ATS.

It sounds like don't know how to drive a manual transmission because if you are hauling a very heavy load like 40-60 tons you have to have to down shift until you can find a gear that you can accelerate easily in. Also how powerful your engine is also plays a part. With some loads you can start out in like 4th gear while other loads you can't.

and automatic shift mode...

Rule of thumb:
If you hit your throttle to the bottom, your engine should turn between 1000 and 1500 rpm.

If lower, shift down.
If higher, shift up.

Easy to learn, hard to master.
With manual. Without using clutch and config set to unsynchronized gearboxes. :spintires_gears:
(google if you've never heard)

They use engines with high torque on low rpm levels. This would have made those engines to run very hot if temperatures&cooling had been simulated seriously.:pumphouselantern:

if you are SLOW, accelerating from stock-still, be happy that your game is realistic.

I sometimes managed to start driving fast if I went from 1st gear to like 4th and then just timed them well but I can't seem to do that often enough, it's not mods or truck loads its just I'm not sure to which gears to switch to for it to gain speed fast.
