Stuck @ 6mph in First Gear...
Title says it all. Been frustrated for the past hour trying to figure why the crap I'm stuck at 6mph in First Gear then when I shift to 2nd I can go 12mph.

Running with Logitech G920 with a G-Shifter

Settings:

H-Shift

Acceleration Axis: Inverted

Brake Axis: Centered

Clutch Axis: Inverted and Centered

Shifter Layout: Splitter

Shifter Layout Behavior: Simple

I know this ordeal is user error and not the game. Someone please tell me how to fix?

keep shifting up 1st=6mph, 2nd=12mph, 3rd=15mph, etc etc

What transmission are you running?

If running a 10 speed...you will need to assign a button for the range selector on your wheel or keyboard after getting to 5th gear. This is Shifter Toggle 1 in the controls.

If you are running a 13/18, in addition to the above you will need to assign a splitter too. However you will need to shift to the upper side after 4th gear. This is shifter toggle 2.

Do not put a check in shifter toggles use switch mode as you are not running a truck shifter like an Almars SKRS or an Eaton style shifter from Southern Trucking Gaming.

ETA: For simple terms...without a truck shifter...stick to a 6 speed transmission. You can then set each shifter position on the controls without the need to assign buttons on your keyboard/wheel for the range selector/splitter.

It's not like a car, the low gears in a truck are meant to get you and your cargo moving from a stand-still.

I didn't check the box and glad you told me even though I didn't think of use to me anyways. Getting good at learning the ropes in ATS, but still stumped. When I first played, everything setting wise was perfect. I remember having to shift into second gear before 20mph not 6mph. Since I've built a new PC, reinstalled, I now have a feeling I'm missing something lol :( :fingerscrossed:

...Thank you for actually being helpful btw

H Shifter is what is going to allow you to manually shift gears :).

There are the following transmission in the game:

6 speed
7 speed
10 speed
13 speed
18 speed

Lonestar added a new transmission. A 12 speed for automatics.

6/7 speeds are also generally used for automatic transmissions. You can manually shift these like you do in a car however. That is why I recommended that.

Change the shifter layout to range. You are currently set to splitter by your description. You can then click on each shifter position 1, 2, etc and reverse. After you click each one, move your shifter to where you want first gear, second, third and so on.

How do I explain going 20mph at most in 5th gear? I still go 6mph in 1st gear, 8mph in 2nd gear. I have no idea what's limiting my speed. I vividly recall being able to at least do the speed limit in game. This is without trailer btw. Still can't even drive to my next job without my truck being a jack wagon.

Do you think there's some sort of manual transmission individual speed limiters for gears? I'm sure that's not a thing, but it sure feels like it. Also I did change to Range layout like you said.

Kinda an obvious question to ask...but did you take off the parking brake before driving?

Speed is going to be limited by max rpm...which is generally around 2000rpm.
Sir Prysin Noobz Jan 26, 2020 @ 9:52am
Yeah Parking Brake is off. This game is becoming a task just to set up. First speed was limited between gears, 5th would only take me to 20mph, now I can't even Accelerate because I messed with a setting. Been at this for 2 hours ugghhh. I really want to give this game another shot.

In this case...and I don't mean to cause more work is to:

Close out of the game

Navigate to Documents/American Truck Simulator/profiles\Your Profile Fodler(alphanumeric numbers)

Open this folder

delete the controls.sii file

Exit and start the game again. This will have set up your wheel and everything again.

If you have Centered selected than you are only using half the pedals travel.
Use Normal and Inverted if the axis is showing 100% on without the pedal being pushed.

I dont know about anyone else but it sounds like the truck works fine to me. Semi's arent geared like cars are. I'm usually in gear 4 by the time I make it through a intersection. 5th being 20mph sounds about right. 6-7 are usually city speeds (35-45mph). Its not until you get to 8,9, and 10 that they work longer before shifting again. 8 usually goes up to 50-55, and 9 takes over until 65.

I'm governed at 66 so 10 usually sits at 10rpm, aka low range for best fuel mileage.

He said he was using a 6 speed.

I will try this and post if it worked. Thank you for your time.
